Audio files have stopped working — why? Am getting 'file not found' for both.
-
Audio files I embedded in this post worked perfectly for several hours, but have been mysteriously removed from here: http://post-gutenberg.com/2012/08/30/3629/
Must please find fast fix!
Thanks.

You have converted the lines into links, which breaks the embed code.
When you edit the post, you’ll see them blue and underlined. Just highlight them, and click the button that looks like a broken chain next to the link button, then save the post.

Thanks for your reply, macmanx, but I cannot get your remedy to work.
Neither with or without links can I return to my glitch-free beginning … In the first few hours, when the files did work perfectly, I was able to … follow instructions, and … on the media upload page,
1. click on the ‘None’ option for URL links
2. save this choice
3. see the radio buttons (icons) for the Audiofiles appear in the blog entry. Then something in the coding changed, and no matter how many attempts I make — even in ‘private’ new posts, I am not being allowed to select the ‘None’ option and insert the Audiofile symbols.

The shortcodes are still linked. You’ll need to edit the post (not the files in the Media library) to highlight the shortcode and break the link.
I have taken care of the first one at http://post-gutenberg.com/2012/08/30/3629/ so you can see the difference when you edit it.

Thanks, macmanx, but what you did _still_ failed to bring back the Audiofile icon.
I have copied what you did in restoring my second audio file, but it seems absurd that the elegant click-and-play Audiofile icons for which I paid — which worked so beautifully at the start — refuse to re-appear.
This is obviously because the ‘None’ option for the URL linking refuses to be selected.
If we cannot restore the icons, may I please have a refund of half the amount I paid to post audio clips?
This is what I have put on my blog about these problems … and if you cannot solve the problem, please send me a link for a forum in which other people are suffering in the same way (am desperately busy, myself):
‘(Ach! … in what we hope is only a brief visit from a gremlin, the audio files that worked perfectly for a few hours on Wednesday no longer display the click-and-play Audiofile icon. Until expert help arrives, please click on each title below and then click again on the red letters on the page that comes up next. … The contraptions of Heath Robinson and Rube Goldberg come to mind.)’

It looks like you’re still inserting them from the media library, which creates links.
You need to insert the shortcodes as instructed in http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/
Only then will you see the player, otherwise they will just be links.
I have corrected all of the links in the above article to the correct shortcodes.

Hello again,
Thank you for doing that … I did exactly that myself many times, before I called for help, and saw nothing on the screen. … Same result, now, on devices in the Apple family — but I do get what I want to see on a Windows-compatible smart phone.
Could the trouble be related to operating system-incompatibility and if so, what can I do about it?
-
Have confirmed that the problem appears to be with Apple devices. The icons still do not show up on them. What can be done about this?
-
By “Apple Devices” do you mean iOS devices, like iPhone, iPad, etc? If so, they’re working just fine for me.
They’re also working in Safari on my iMac.
-
Have been running various tests on various devices, with the help of friends and relations … No luck with Safari on the MacAir I have been using for trials. You see the link for the audio file in the ‘visual’ text editor, but nothing at all on the published page. … Might some WP setting — whether inadvertently, by me, or by a staff member — be responsible for this?
-
I think something may be wrong with your browser or other configuration.
Here’s what I see in Safari 6 on my iMac: http://cl.ly/image/1w3K0A0V2b1P
Which version of Safari are you running?
Also, here’s what I see on my iPhone: http://cl.ly/image/351k3M2c0D2b

What miracle did you work, macmanx?
I have been struggling with a small cyclone of offline problems, so only noticed a few hours ago that the audio files now appear on the page — on that machine — looking the way they should.
I can’t imagine that you weren’t responsible.
Thanks!
