Audio player in Widget
-
Hi:
I have follow the faq to insert mp3 associated with a player in the post, however, i am interested in displaying the mp3 player in the text widget in order to make it accessible all the time.
I have tried and fail so far, does anyone have a solution on this matter?
“Inserting audio player in the side bar/widget (not talking about post!)”
Thank you for your help!

As far as I know there is no way to do that. You can use the Box.net widget code in a text widget, but that’s about it.

The Box.net give too much write to the readers (download is possible) which is too dangerous for the content.
I am so sad that there are such restriction on wordpress, really disappointed.

Hi Ks
I am intending to add some MP3 stuff to my blog in the future- having found the same limitations you have pointed out, my solution is to create a page where I will have all the mp3 files lined up with name date title etc and will create a series of links to the corresponding entry’s to the player pages- and as you can add hot-links to the side bar- you can also place the links there-

couldy ou not add a text box on a sidebar and then put the code in for a audio widget? thats what i plan to do, my problem is finding a widget to use…

The code for the wordpress audio player cannot be used in the sidebar widgets, and any code from third-parties will typically include javascript, which is stripped out due to security concerns.

I suggest contacting support and requesting a way to put an audio player in the sidebar. That is really the best way and assures that it will be put on their list for consideration.

@kskusanagi-any time someone listens to an mp3 on the Internet, it is downloaded to their computer. Period.
While it’s true that you can’t put the WordPress.com audio player in a text widget in your sidebar, you can put either an HTML link (Play Me!) to an mp3 file or make a screenshot of the player button, upload the image and link the image to the mp3 file. Whenever someone clicks the link, their browser will open whatever their computer’s default player is for mp3. Not elegant, but it works.
Do definitely write WordPress.com Support and request the ability to put the player in the sidebar. The more that request it, then there’s a chance WP.com will listen.

You can use the Odeo podcast in a text widget, if you host the files at studio.odeo.com.

In case anyone else is interested, I just found out that you can choose to prohibit downloading of mp3 files from the Box.net widget by changing the folder settings on Box.net
Cheers!
