Audio Player Puzzle
-
Could someone please point me in the right direction of adding the Audio Player Plugin to my blog? I’ve downloaded the audio player, but I just can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Is there a post on the forums that addresses installation in very basic language for a non-tech person like myself?
Thanks

What audioplayer have you downloaded? The new WordPress audio player doesn’t need you to download anything. To post an audio, all you do is put [audio theURLoftheMP3] and that’s that. It should be formatted and everything automatically. Note that the MP3 has to already be online somewhere.

Thanks for both your responses. Do I understand correctly that I should have my audio files uploaded onto a page of my website so that I can link directly from the blog, using the audio player?
And I do have the space upgrade, so could you explain how can I have the mp3 based in my wp.com space? Please?
Thanks *so* much for your help!

Once you have the MP3 hosted here, you need to get the URL of it and then put it into the format I described above. You can upload the MP3’s from your computer using the Upload screen on the Write Post page of your site.

So, let me see if I’m following this train of thought correctly. I would first upload the mp3 from my computer via the upload screen on the Write Post page of my blog directly onto a blogpage just as I have a jpg file or a gif file. Then I’d simply type in the code:
[audio http://www.masterworks.wordpress.com/whatevertherestis%5D
and the audio player would appear and actually make the mp3 play off my blogpage.
Is that correct?Thanks!
-
Yes, with the space upgrade but without the ‘www’ bit within your URL there. The ‘masterworks’ bit takes the place of the ‘www’ bit. They do not coexist.
-
Thanks for the help. Another question here: once I upload the file onto my blogpage, how do I know what the complete address is without publishing it first? Or do I go ahead and publish, find the webaddress, then go back in and add it into the [audio] code?
Sorry to be dense here, but I’m a visual learner!

Dashboard -> Manage -> Uploads -> Click on the item and it will show you the links.
Hope this helps,

Okay, I’ve tried this:
[audio http://masterworks.files.wordpress.com/2007/02/11-come-all-you-playmates.m4a%5D
As soon as I type it in, it turns blue, indicating a hyperlink. And the audio player doesn’t show up.
When I copy and paste the code from the announcement about the audio player, it *does* turn out exactly as described.
What am I doing wrong?
Btw, thanks *so* much for the pointer to the dashboard! That was a tremendous help!

I don’t think so, because on the Upload page, it clearly states that m4a files are acceptable.
I just realized that when I uploaded the file, I linked it to the page which, I’m guessing, created a hyperlink as I saw it on the blogpage.
I went back and linked it instead to “file” and now the audio player appears, but does not play. It will open and say “buffering,” but then says “error opening file” instead.
Any suggestions?

I’ve also noticed on Matt’s audio example, his link is *not* hyperlinked. Could this be my problem, and, if so, how do I avoid it?
-
Break the link in the Visual Rich Editor, they have an icon with a broken chain link, so just click on the link anywhere and then click on that icon. It won’t work until you break that link for whatever reason.
-
Thanks, Raincoaster, for the help. I’ve broken the link, but all it says is “buffering” – still no sound. Any more possibilities?
-
if u don’t have enough space on wordpress.com u can host it in another place and just place the link. I would recomend archive.org
I use all the time at my blog and it works seamslessly..

I’m still having problems trying to figure this one out. I’ve upgraded and should have plenty of available space, but my audio player is still only buffering – perpetually.
Anyone with any other ideas?

I haven’t actually published the post yet. I’ve been working with it in draft mode. Matt’s audio player works fine in draft mode.
Is that my problem – that I haven’t published it yet?
