audio upload
-
I’ve tried to upload songs and personal recordings, but keep getting this error:
File type does not meet security guidelines. Try another.
Any ideas?

Note that you cannot upload audio files without the space upgrade.
-
Host them elsewhere and you can still link to them and use them in your audio player. I use Studio Odeo, but others use box.net or even Google.

Thanks everyone – this was helpful…
I tried to upload a wma file and then converted it to an mp3, but no luck – however, vivian’s link tells me that these are only uploadable if a space upgrade, which costs, so I will investigate photobucket or box.net …
Also, a friend had asked if they can setup an autoplay song so that people hear it upon arriving to the blog (like myspace); however, I don’t think this is possible, is it?

Autoplay is THANKFULLY not possible on WP.com. Yay! no more Coldplay over my Nine Inch Nails!
You can enable play upon click:

ncsuenglish: I upload mp3s at Fileden, get the direct URLs from there and then simply paste them in my posts (HTML mode) in this form:
[audio URL]
This activates the WordPress audio player, which works fine.

I uploaded a personal recording to box.net. Then, I grabbed its URL – http://www.box.net/shared/0x18duww0k – and pasted it to my post through the “add audio” option. This creates a nice link to box.net where a user can then download the file. But I would rather setup a one-track player that will stream the music through without losing the page.
The FAQ describes the following, but I find the details of the process lacking:
How would I link this? How would I attach the box.net url to the wpcom.files url? Can someone list the steps or provide an example? Appreciated!
1. Upload an mp3 file somewhere on the internet and link to it like this [audio ] with the address inside.
Like this:
[audio http://wpcom.files.wordpress.com/2007/01/mattmullenweg-interview.mp3%5Dwhich will produce the following player:

Ok, I got the audio player to show, as mentioned above – however, when I click “play”, it simply buffers without playing anything. It’s an WMA file that I upload to box.net, if it matters. Any ideas?

I’ve had a good experience with uploading the mp3 to MusicWebTown, then copy the address of your song from there and insert it into [audio=address of song] in your post. Hope this is helpful.

Note that only mp3 audio can be directly played on WordPress audio player.

Dear Forum,
I have purchased the upgrade (about an hour ago) specifically to upload an MP3 file – but I get the message below. Bit miffed don’t want to pay more to store files in a separte location e.g. box.net. Why does it say “File type does not meet security guidelines.” How can I get it to meet security guidelines?
File type does not meet security guidelines. Try another.
Allowed file types: jpg, jpeg, png, gif, pdf, doc, ppt, odt, mp3, mp4, m4a, wav, ogg, mov, wmv, avi, mpg.

Time to fess up to an error – the file I am trying to upload was a CDA file – no audio content. So back to the drawing board in trying to get an MP3 version

I have followed the same steps listed by mattjholland above with the additional step of converting the file to mp3 and then uploading to MusicWebTown. This site generated both a URL and EMBED code. I have tried to add the URL as a text file in a widget on the main page using [audio URL] but it is not working. I have also tried to add music to an individual page with still no luck. I sure do miss Sonific! Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

The audio player won’t work in a text widget. Post the link to the file here so we can see if it plays.

Thank you for your offer to help! Here is the link:
http://www.musicwebtown.com/scotti/197027/
and this is the ’embed’ code:
<b style=color:red>FREE</b> service provided by <u>MusicWebTown.com</u></center> -
scotti,
The reason you are having problems is because http://www.musicwebtown.com/scotti/197027/ is not the link to the actual music file. It’s a link to the page that plays the file. -
and Scott – that embed code will never work because it has flash in it. Flash is not allowed here
