Is there a problem uploading audio today?

I’m trying to put my radio show audio up on my royalcityrag.wordpress.com blog. Usually I have no problems. I’ve tried a couple of times in the last six hours.

Can you give us an idea of the kinds of failure notices you see? What, exactly, happens?

And it never hurts to do the Cookie Dance: log out, clear browser cache and cookies, and do a full restart. Sometimes that fixes things for no particular reason I can see.

Wow… that was quick.

No failure notice. It just hangs after I click ‘Upload’. Normally it takes just a second or two to get started

I’ll clear the browser cache and cookies then do a full restart.

Unfortunately this is not one one of those situations resolved by the clean-up and log out.

Any other ideas?

You haven’t by any chance updated Flash recently? The latest update totally screws up uploading of images and media and it’s recommended that you revert if you’re using the very newest version.

I’m fairly sure that I saw a message about a Flash update this week… so since my last audio upload.

Can you point me to a place to get the info on reverting or provide that to me?

I should add that I’m using Windows XP.

I also uploaded images without problem earlier today.

My upgrade on the Flash Player was on 20/10/08.

I was wandering around in the forums and saw a note about the Flash Uploader possibly being removed because of issues after the Adobe upgrade.

However the pop up says that I’m uploading with the browser uploader. I also don’t remember having to click an Upload button.

I’m a little confused… (:

It was a longshot.

About the file you’re uploading: what is the format and what is the size? What is the filename? Sometimes WP doesn’t like names with punctuation etc.

File is 36 mb MP3. Filename is Royal City Rag 221008, a file format that I’ve used many times before without problem. I have 6G of space with 1.4G used.

Taking a stab here –

The file name has mp3 on the end, right? Have you tried renaming the file (remove the spaces in it) and then try to upload again? Have you looked in the media list to see if the file did upload and you just didn’t get the notification that it had?

I tried renaming the file (without spaces)to see if it would load, but without succeess.

Its definitely an mp3.

This is funny because I’ve uploaded a lot of audio previously (similar files) without problem.

I was wondering if its a server problem?

Good news. Problem appears to be solved.

I managed to upload a couple of images without problem so I decided to try loading the audio again.

Turns out the audio uploaded fine and probably was loading each time I tried its just that the the Browser Loader doesn’t really show that its doing anything. It could easily be hanging.

With a 38Mb file it takes about 15 minutes to load which is normal.

I need to learn to be a bit more patient!

Hopefully they can do something to bring the Flash Loader back. Its definitely easier to use.
