Audio Uploads Not Working

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I am having trouble uploading audio for my blog. I am trying to upload an mp3 of my podcast which features creative commons music. The upload seems to work in that the bar goes up to 100% but then I am stuck in the “crunching” period for a few minutes. Eventually, the screen goes back to the beginning, as if I never tried to upload a file at all. It is very frustrating.

Also, the section in the Support area related to audio uploads does not look like the window that comes up when I try to upload a file. Both the flash uploader and browser uploader do not look like the one featured in the audio section of the forums. Though that section was supposedly updated on 10/21/09, I think it may not have really been updated. Or maybe there is some other disconnect. I appreciate that WordPress is an open source project primarily staffed by volunteers, but this is very frustrating and I have paid for the space upgrade.

I am on a Windows Vista SP1 machine. 2.0 ghz Core2Duo processor with 4 gb ram and an 8 mbps cable modem connection that is generally fast. I can only conclude that this is a problem with WordPress or some kind of software incompatibility. Is WordPress incompatible with AVG antivirus?

    Best,

    Stephen

Do you have the space upgrade? You cannot upload audio to WordPress.com without it.

Ah, I see you do. What format is the audio in?

    Hi,

I got it to work! I had to use IE though instead of my usual Firefox. I think maybe it would have worked with Firefox, though I waited a few minutes without any clear progress. I will try out things with Firefox again next week and see if I can get it to work. It may be just that it’s really slow because I am working with large mp3 files (75MB) for my podcast.

    Help!

This is happening to me too. I’ve tried the flash and browser uploaders in the Firefox and Chrome browsers and all that happens is that the upload bar zooms upto 100% very quickly and then freezes on ‘Crunching’. The browsers then tend to crash.

Interestingly this started to happen after I upgraded to free AVG 9.0.

    Many thanks.

    Greg.

    Dell Inspiron 530. Windows Vista.

We can’t help without a link to the blog, starting with http.

Same thing as Greg for me on http://castalavista.wordpress.com – interestingly I just updated to AVG 9.0 last week as well.

    Worth downgrading?

It might be. The question is, is it possible? Antivirus and firewall measures do interfere with uploading sometimes.

Try temporarily disabling AVG (don’t surf to anywhere but the wordpress pages while it is disabled) and then try again. If it works then you have your answer. Do make sure and turn AVG back on after you try this test though before surfing off to anywhere else.

I got rid of AVG and it worked fine – gonna try my luck with Avast on the anti-virus front for the time being, see if that works any better…

I’ve been using Avast on my PC laptop (used for testing only) and have never had any issues with it interfering with wordpress. The latest AVG seems to have some issues though.
