Audio URL won't embed
-
I am trying to put an audio file onto my post via the URL option (I have the free .com account) from Google Docs. When I enter the URL the audio graphic shows on my page but it is 0:00 minutes, i.e. it didn’t actually link to anything? The file is set to viewable in Google Docs. I tried pasting the link into the caption area just to see and when I click it it does go to the file so I’m not sure why it won’t show up on the page?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is copied from my Google Docs page-is that the wrong place to copy it from? -
Ok, in order for it to work, it will need to a URL that leads to just the audio file itself.
Additionally, that file is reporting as Private. It will need to be made Public for anyone other than your Google account to view it.

Alright. I set the file so everyone can view it but there are no privacy options beyond that. When I click to open it it opens in iTunes or Video Player for Google Drive, but I can’t seem to get a link just for the audio file from the video player.

Ok, I allowed downloading but it still defaults to iTunes when I open it. I made it open with Video Player and it did on a site called https://youfiles.herokuapp.com/…… Would that link be the right one?
Is the end goal to lead someone off my blog page to view the audio file or embed it? I keep getting the message that I need to upgrade to do so-may be easier to not include audio! -
I think I may have fixed it. Can you try the original link above again and let me know if that’s where it’s supposed to lead? I still can’t get the audio block to display it but at least I will have a link to it for my assignment if this is right. Thank you!

Yep, the Google Drive file works now.
Please try to embed that, and if that doesn’t work, please give us a link to the post or page where it’s not working.

It still gives me a blank audio post in the audio block. The page is not published yet, but the preview shows the same thing. It’s about two paragraphs down.

Hm, yes it does seem that won’t work.
Since the page is actually a whole HTML page with a player and download options, and not just an audio file by itself, it cannot embed that way.

I tried dragging and dropping the audio file itself as an mP3 and again as an m4a but it said they couldn’t be used due to security issues and I need to upgrade. I’m sort of at a loss since those types of files are on the safe list I believe. Thanks for your help though, I appreciate it a lot!

Hi there,
To clarify, when you try to drag and drop the audio file itself, this is attempting to “upload” it to your site, which is not possible unless you have the WordPress.com Personal Plan or higher. It is not possible to upload audio files directly to free sites.
I’ve also done a bit of research and it seems that Google Drive does not have an option for a “direct media URL” which is what WordPress.com would need to be able to embed the audio file from Google (instead of uploading it to your site directly.)
However, you do have some other options for embedding audio on your free site, which you can use instead of Google Drive, and will work on your free site.
– https://wordpress.com/support/audio/#embed-from-sound-cloud-audiomack-8-tracks-mixcloud-and-bandcampOther than those options, as I mention you can upgrade to the Personal plan, which will allow you to host audio directly on your site, and you would be able to upload it to your media library same as you would do for a standard image.

Great-thanks for the links, I’ll give them a shot and consider the plan if that makes more sense. Thanks to you both for all your time!
