Authentication Code
-
I am not sure what my authentication code is, I have tried to disable the two step authentication because it will not allow me to use my wordpress app on my phone and it is getting in the way of my daily routine in terms of blogging. I would like to either get directions on how to find my authentication code OR learn how to disable the two step process.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can use this link to reach the password reset page
https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Then scroll down and click the “Need More Help?” link next to the button, and fill out the form. Our account recovery team will get back to you by email so you can discuss the options in private. -
Hi. I too am trying to disable two step authentication but have no idea what my ‘authentication code’ is. I’d appreciate some help. Cheers.

Please click the “Need More Help” link and complete the form for account recovery. https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

It’s this one https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery
and it’s usually found by clicking here first https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword and then scrolling down to “Need More Help”. -
Still can’t see any links to ‘Need More Help’ or any way to discern what the required ‘authentication code’ is.

Did you click this link https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and complete as much information as you could?

@thekitchenrevolution – You’ll need to generate an application-specific password for the app. Go here:
https://wordpress.com/settings/security/There, follow the instructions to generate an application password and then use that password with your username or email address to log in on the app. Then everything should work for you.
Jason, the authentication code is the code you generate using the Google Authenticator app on your phone when you set up two factor. Did you since delete the app from your phone?

I have the same issue and have followed instructions above – now I can no longer log in to my WordPress for Android app – it doesn’t give me an option to use the password I generated.
Im having to use an SMS code every time I want to log in to my blog on my laptop. Yes – I didn’t print the back up codes – I don’t have a printer.
Im getting rather frustrated with it all and just want it all to go back to the way it was. Is this possible or should I just bin my blog and start again. Id rather not as I kinda like the one I have (just preferred it without the added ‘security’)
Anyone ? Help ?
:)

Good lord – Im not as stupid as I thought and this wasn’t anywhere as difficult as Ive been under the impression it is for the last week.
I clicked generate codes – allowed the pop up which I didn’t ever notice in Chrome (Internet Explorer told me it was there), used the first code and now Im 2 step free !!

I have the same problem, that I have to use a SMS code every time I want to log in to my blog on my laptop. However I saved the backup codes that I got the first time.
But the codes does not work anymore because I think I accidently pressed Generate Backup Codes and it says “Clicking the “Generate Backup Codes” button more than once will cause all previous backup codes to be permanently disabled.”
So I may have pressed the buttom more han once and now I can’t get new codes or disable this Two Step Authentication.
My second problem is that I can’t recover my accout because I don’t think I have any API key (how do find it then?) or a transaction ID or URL or KEY and definitely not a two factor authentication code..
How do I know which my current authentication code is? So I can disable the Two Step Authentication?

Hi @juliaanas – I’m sending you an email about this.
I’m closing this thread now — if anyone else is having this problem, please use the password recovery form and a member of staff will help you out.
