My fellow Author does not have an iPhone or a phone that can received text messages. He does have an iPod Touch. Can he use that for authenticating?

Hi
Yep, your friend will need to download the Google Authenticator app from the App Store, and set up their WordPress.com account to use it.
Here’s a helpful guide on how to set up Google Authenticator for WordPress.com: http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/#setup-with-google-authenticator

Well, a follow up to our attempt yesterday to get my fellow Author authenticated. First, the WordPress procedure is to write a telephone number. My friend’s iPod Touch does not have a telephone number. Then we tried to send SMS to his cellphone. His cellphone is several years old and cannot download apps. Of course, no SMS could be sent. What am I doing wrong in trying to set up the iPod Touch?

Hi there!
Your friend should be able to set up two step authentication using a combination of both their cell phone and their iPod touch. They’ll just need to enter their phone number in when required. And then in the next step, they can set up the Google Authenticator app on their iPod in the next step.
We ask for the cell phone number in order to text them an SMS code in case they lose access to the authenticator app. They can also skip the authenticator app entirely and just use SMS codes to access their account. Here are directions for doing that:
I hope that helps! Let me know if you’re still having trouble.
