Author / article gap
-
Hi I have recently started using a laptop to build my website. I have noticed there is a large gap between the author and tags section on the left hand side and my actual post. Does anybody know how to reduce this gap? it looks perfect if i view the desktop version on my mobile but not on a actual laptop.
My website is BradsBackpack.com
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
What you see is by design – the Canard theme you’re using has a three-column layout for single posts: Post-meta, Post-content, Widget Sidebar. You can see it on the demo site, here:
https://canarddemo.wordpress.com/2015/03/25/new-york-city/
When you don’t add any widgets to the sidebar, the post-content column shifts to the right edge, but it doesn’t get any wider.
Are you planning on adding any widgets to the sidebar? That should instantly fix the issue for you, and is the simplest option.
Else we can try some CSS code:
/* make content-column wider and more centered on single posts */ @media screen and (min-width: 1380px) { div#jp-relatedposts, .comments-area, .single .entry-content { width: 700px; margin-right: 230px; } }This will make the content column wider, and shift it more to the center. You can play around with those numbers, but I wouldn’t go any wider than 750px for the content column, as past that point your lines will become too long to read comfortably.
Also note that your plan gives you access to both live chat and direct email support. You can reach those at any time by clicking the Help icon that appears bottom-right on all the My Sites pages, or else via the direct link at https://wordpress.com/help/contact

Hi Kokkieh! thank you for your suggestion, originally it was something i didnt want but seeing how the theme uses it i will give it a go, is there any widgets youd recommend for the sidebar?

You’re off to a good start. :)
Choosing widgets is very personal, there’s no one that’s mandatory for every situation, so I’d hesitate to recommend any.
