Author avatars and bios

  Can an author upload her own avatar and bio? If not, does she just send these to the administrator? And then, how does the administrator proceed to get this information onto the author grid? Thanks.

  Hi Pamela – Each author should create his/her own WordPress.com account. They do not need to create a blog, but can create a username-only account:
  https://en.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1

  They can upload their own Gravatar and update their bio in Users->My Profile. You can add them all as authors to your site:
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/#invite-people-to-contribute-to-your-blog

  Then, once that author has published a post, her Gravatar will show up in the author grid.

  So, Eurello, if I’m reading your instructions correctly, the author can publish from her user only account and then her bio and picture will show up in my author grid and the post will appear on my blog? Or as administrator, am I the one who publishes the article? Also, I added the author widget to my sidebar settings yesterday, but it is not yet showing up on the blog. I assume that once the author’s post is published, this author widget will become visible?

  Hi Pamela – If you choose the ‘author’ user role, then the authors themselves can publish their own posts. You can read more about the various user roles here:
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

  The Author widget wasn’t showing because you’d chosen in the visibility settings for the widget for it to only show on author pages. I changed that, and now it’s showing on your front page. :)

  Thanks for your help, Eurello. I had difficulty interpreting the visibility settings, so I appreciate you setting it appropriately. I wonder if there should be an explanation of those settings somewhere on WordPress; others may benefit from this written instruction as well.

  Yes, I saw that support page, but I didn’t know how to interpret the choices on the drop down menu, so I just took a guess and my guesses were wrong. I think a bit more specific explanation would help.
