Author Stats
-
Hi, I’m an author for a network with about 200 contributors. We’re trying to separate views and stats out by author, but only 4 or 5 profiles have views associated with them. The rest fall under a blank account. How do we get our views associated with the correct authors?

Hi there,
To which site are you referring? The WordPress.com account you’re using to post here doesn’t own any sites on WordPress.com, nor do you have any sites connected to this account using the Jetpack plugin.
If you’re the open source version of WordPress at another host, and using another analytics plugin instead of Jetpack for stats on your site, you need to contact support of that plugin directly for help with this.
We can only help with issues related to WordPress.com/Jetpack stats in this forum.

Hi there,
Thank you for your quick response! So I am a contributor for a site that uses Jetpack and can’t seem to get my account linked to that site so that we can track analytics by contributor. Can you help with the linking process?

Hi there,
What is the site URL? In the WordPress.com account that owns the Jetpack connection, they can go to My Sites > People > Add and invite your WordPress.com username to be a new admin there. Once you accept the invitation you should see the site listed under their My Sites tab, and you’ll have access to all Jetpack settings that you have as an admin. You won’t need to make a separate Jetpack connection for your account.
Thanks,

It’s thebrawlnetwork.com. I already have access to the overall stats, the issue is when we want to break up views by author, most of the views are falling under a blank profile. We’ve got over 200 contributors and we want to be able to track who is getting how many views, if that makes sense. I’d upload a screenshot if I could!

Gotcha. So, only the authors who are connected via Jetpack will have their stats separated.
Jetpack works by establishing a link between the local account on your site, and your WordPress.com account with us. When you publish a post with your own account, it’s using that connection to WordPress.com in order to figure out who you are, and associate that post with you.
If another author publishes a post but hasn’t connected their WordPress.com account yet, then Jetpack won’t know who to assist the stats to. In turn, it groups them into a generic blank author category. However, if that person connects to their WordPress.com account via Jetpack then it will recognize who they are and split that author’s posts out of the “unknown” group.
I would have the authors create a WordPress.com account if they have not already and then you can invite them to join the site as a registered user with an Author role from the following dashboard link:

Thanks!

Awesome, that worked!! Will each individual author be able to see their own stats now and where do they access that if so? I have admin access, so I do see all of that. But I want to make sure all of our authors can as well.

Thanks! We actually have “Jetpack” in the spot where “Traffic” is. Will we need to contact Jetpack to get that set up?

Hi there,
I see that the site is on the Jetpack Premium plan and therefore you can contact the Jetpack support team at https://jetpack.com/contact-support/
Please note that only the owner of the Premium plan (administrator) can contact them directly.
