authorization code from wordpress to unlock the domain name – to change from wordpress.com to .org
-
I want to set up my blog as a .org blog but it’s currently a .com. I’ve been told from the company who host my domain I need an authorization code from wordpress & for them to unlock the domain name so I can complete the transfer process. How do I do this as there doesn’t seem to be a contact section to speak to someone directly from wordpress.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
What domain do you want to transfer? You don’t own any domains on WordPress.com.

Hi there,
Sorry for the confusion, I’m muddling through setting up my blog and am struggling to get my head round the technical side. So I
bought my domain name with wild west domains, and set up my wordpress blog with yourselves as a premium service a year ago.My blog has remained live throughout this time, but was told I’d need to find a company to host it independently if I wanted to change from a wordpress.com site to a wordpress.org site.
I just want to be able to edit images & optimise images better, and be able to use better SEO plugins, etc but don’t have that functionality so was advised a .org wordpress would be better than a .com.
1) I’m unsure if the price I paid for a premium blog included hosting?
2) Bluehost host my wordpress (as of recently when I paid for hosting) so do they own my domain now or do wild west domains still? I rang their customer service and they said they were so rude, they said they don’t deal with it as it’s a wordpress site. All enquiries are to go to wordpress, so I am now really confused at what I need to do/ who owns what.
3) I don’t know how I change my site from a .com to .org wordpress?I apologise if I’m being stupid, this is just really complicated to figure out when you haven’t set up a blog before/ host it etc. I’d appreciate your help Kokkieh. :)
I only recently hosted the site with Bluehost,

I don’t know if this helps,
I’ve just looked through my emails, 9/12/2015 when I first set up my blog I paid for Domain Registration & Domain Mapping with yourselves for thelustinglife.com.
But since I bought hosting with bluehost last month, does that mean the domain transferred/ owned by them now? Also, does it matter my domain name is hosted by/ bought through wild west domains and not them?

Hosting is free on WordPress.com. Your Premium Plan is to add additional features to your site. It is not payment for hosting.
2) Bluehost host my wordpress (as of recently when I paid for hosting) so do they own my domain now or do wild west domains still? I rang their customer service and they said they were so rude, they said they don’t deal with it as it’s a wordpress site. If you have a WordPress site with Bluehost, you are using the WordPress.org version. Many hosts only offer support in terms of your hosting account. They don’t offer support for the website itself. For a WordPress.org site you need to ask in the self-hosted forums for help:
https://wordpress.org/support/
3) I don’t know how I change my site from a .com to .org wordpress?
We have a detailed guide on exactly what to do here:
the domain is http://www.thelustinglife.com by the way.
Both your Premium Plan and your domain were bought by the username, thelustinglife, so only that username can make changes to the upgrades, including transferring the domain. You will need to log out of the mreed1509 account and log in as the correct account, then you can start a transfer of the domain using the instructions here:
Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar
But since I bought hosting with bluehost last month, does that mean the domain transferred/ owned by them now? Also, does it matter my domain name is hosted by/ bought through wild west domains and not them?
Your domain is currently both registered and still hosted with us. It will only be registered with Bluehost is you follow the process described above.
You can also have the domain registered here and hosted with Bluehost. You do that by pointing the domain’s name servers to Bluehost. Get the correct name servers from them, and then add them to your domain as described here:
But again, you’ll need to be logged in as the domain owner to do this.
