Authors and Users – who appears in search?

Hello. My blog havienda.wordpress.com has a Administrator and an Editor set up on the Users – Authors & Users page of Dashboard. My question is this: Why, when I click on a category or tag link in a post written by the Editor, articles by that author don’t appear in the wordpress.com search results, yet when I click on the same tag in a post by the Administrator those ones do?

I’m not quite sure, but the one thing to be aware of is that to appear in the wordpress.com global tags pages, there is a limit on the total number of tags + categories that you can assign to a post. Staff has said in threads here in the forums that a total of 12 is the limit (example: 4 categories + 8 tags = 12), but in this FAQ, it mentions a total of 10: http://faq.wordpress.com/2008/07/15/my-post-doesnt-show-up-in-the-tag-list-what-gives/ .

Some of the posts on your blog have more than a total of ten or 12.

Try removing some of the tags or categories (to get at or under 12) on one of the posts and see if that will fix the issue.

That’s an interesting post you’ve linked to, especially part 4 dealing with use of appropriate tags. I have used the tag bottlenose dolphins in a post, for instance, because that is a name of a band promoted within the article. However, does this count as misleading or irrelevant tagging? I guess it does.

Accepting your point about the safe limit to tag numbers, I still can’t understand why Editor Chris’ article http://havienda.wordpress.com/2008/09/18/haviend/ doesn’t appear in the tag search for havienda

unless it is because of that user being over-liberal with tags and all his posts have been suppressed, hopefully temporarily, in the system until habits improve.

‘The more tags you use, the less likely it is that your post will be selected for inclusion in the global tag listings.’ I never knew that but it makes sense now.

I noticed that post wasn’t in the tags pages as well, and it could have to do with the other posts with more than 12 tags.

Try getting things back under the 12 limit and see what happens.

    Okay I’ll try that. Thanks.
