Authors can't add tags to post using the new editor
-
I feel like Henny Youngman saying “Doctor, it hurts when I do this” and you tell me “Don’t do that”, but I think I found a flaw in the new editor of WordPress. My office’s blog has a couple of admins and several authors. When an author logs in, they cannot add a tag to a new post they create when they are using the new editor. However, if they click on “Switch to classic mode”, they are able to add tags. Is there a simple way of fixing it so that they can use the new editor? The blog has no plugins and is using the “Chunk” theme. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
This is a known issue. Please have your authors use the classic post editor as there are no issues like this when using it. -
The blog has no plugins and is using the “Chunk” theme.
There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, conduct ecommerce and edit the database. Learn about the differences here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

That is what I thought you’d say. I am not sure what you mean by this whole “FTP” thing though. I don’t want to edit or do anything to it or add any plugins and such. The blog is fine. I just want invited authors to be able to post using the new editor and have the ability to add tags to the post, but it looks like they will have to use the “classic” mode. You only had to post your first response. Thanks

Hi there!
Sounds like Timethief answered your question, Jorge. Is that right? It is a known issue that is being addressed.
In the meantime, if your administrators and authors can tag using the classic editor, it would be great!
If there’s anything else I can help with, please do let me know. Thanks much.

NO. I will just have to wait. Actually as an Admin, I can add tags to posts using the new editor. It just doesn’t work for authors. Thanks for the follow up.
-
Ok, thanks Jorge. Hopefully, we’ll have a solution that works for you very soon. Thanks for the patience.

Is it me or did you guys just change the “new” posting window? The authors on my blog could switch to “classic” mode to edit because authors were not able to add tags with the new editor. It seems that the option to switch to classic mode has changed. This will only work if I can use tags as an author within the new editor. If not, this is really bad. Please let me know if there is a fix for this.

Hey Jorge!
We are working on adding the tagging function to the new post editor. However, in the meantime, your authors should still be able to change to the classic editor!
Please go to:
https://wordpress.com/post/27491262/new/?optinScroll to the bottom, right-hand side of the page. You will see:
https://cloudup.com/cEyKD7_NOUWThat link should still take your Authors to the classic version of the post editor, where they can add tags. Are they able to do this?
Please let me know. Many thanks!

I believe you are wrong. I found out that users that were created around the same time as the site was created do have the option to switch to the classic mode, but new users do not.
This link shows a picture of what I see when I log into my blog as two different users. One user was created a while back and the other was created a few days ago. They are both authors of the site. Very frustrating.

Sorry just realized that I was still logged in as another user when I posted this. This is Jorge. I posted the post above. To reiterate:

Jorge,
Thank you so much for that image. While you’re awaiting the tagging feature to be added for authors in the new editor, and if they cannot click the classic link, I have another temporary solution.
Have your authors bookmark this:
https://clarkecatonhintz.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.phpThen, they can go straight to the classic post editor. They can create new posts, or open their older posts.
Sorry about the inconvenience, but I am hoping this gives your authors a livable work-around until the new editor is updated.
Thank you again.

OK I really think you guys have it out for me. Today, I logged in as my self on a new computer and the option to switch to classic mode is gone. I can add tags without a problem, but those who were invited still can’t add tags. I think that before you start forcing the “new and improved” version of the editor, you guys should focus on making such an integral part of posting (namely tags) work for authors. It’s Friday. I need a drink.

It you need to use the classic editor, the best option is to bookmark the classic editor. Here’s the direct link.

Really I do not need the classic mode. I only need users (authors in particular) to have the ability to add tags. This is a major flaw in the new editor and instead of removing the option to switch to classic mode, you guys should have fixed that first.
Extremely flustered. -
I am assuming this is the one thing that has been puzzling you guys for weeks/months. I just can’t believe that tagging in the new editor format is reserved for administrators. Why? It makes no sense. Come on guys. Fix this. Live up to your title of “engineering happiness” for me.

Sorry. I did it again. I logged in as another user to check if this had been fix. THe previous post from vreadingcch was really from me. I repeat:

Any updates on this? I had another inquiry. Not everyone following my company blog is getting notifications. I have set up a blog and have set up everyone in my office with a free account through WordPress. I set it up for everyone to receive an email notification when anyone posts, but it seems that only about 6 people are receiving the notifications when something is posted. I have checked the settings of two people (one that got it and one that didn’t, and they are both set for the instant notification. They also have the “Default Jabber Instant Messenger Delivery” checked. Am I missing something. This is a free blog, so I do not have the ability to add plugins. Is there a way to fix this on the free version or is it because it is free that not everyone is getting the notifications? Please let me know. Thank you. I already posted this question on the general question, but I have not received any answers. Just thought you might be able to help.
