Authors uploading photos/images in comments or on a gallery
-
I want to set up a page where authors can add/upload photos to either a gallery or in the comments section without my having to do it for them. How is this done, I can’t figure it out. Thanks for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

See here first please:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/comments/embeds/You will need to hire web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.

Thank you for responding timethief, I appreciate your help.
I followed the instructions on the “adding users” link and ended up having to approve each and every post the Authors made (we’re just a small group of 9 people)….but did figure out the solution to that.
I don’t want to embed YouTube or Twitter stuff, but thanks for the link, it’s nice to have for the future.
It does say in the Author description that they can upload images (which I thought meant their own)……So to do this I need to hire a company to set it up, then they can?
Thanks for your help,

Authors can upload images into posts and pages just as you can. They cannot upload images into comments. They can only provide image URLs in comments as the images must be hosted on web servers somewhere on the internet in order to be displayed when a browser calls for them.

OK. I have failed to figure out how to do this because it doesn’t happen when (for example) I go to post something, there’s no way to include an image (other than to include the link by http…). Can you direct me to the instructions on how to do this?
Thanks. -
II think you man not be clear on what I am saying. No one can insert an image into a comment. All that they can insert is a URL. Does that make it clear to you?

“Authors can upload images into posts and pages just as you can. “
This is not happening. Can you tell me how to achieve it?
Thanks.

Let me add, this is what happens when an “Author” and I’ll put it in her own words:
“put the cursor on the W on the top left, the menu is :reader
notifications
create a blog
freshly press
settingsWhen I put the cursor on my name (on the top right) this is the menu:
find friends
create a blog
Help
sign outThere is an icon like a comic book text window on the left of my
name, but clicking on it opens a window that has Notifications and
View Archive. “Then she says there is no “Edit” link in the body of the page, just to reply to a comment.
….so, how do Authors upload images into posts and pages just as I can?
Please, please enlighten me, I would so appreciate it.Thanks.

Working through you is not a best case scenario. Please have this author log in to WordPress.com and post directly to this thread which I have tagged for Staff assistance. When she does that she can report her report your specifics to Staff.
If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:

http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
If you are not successful let us know:
(a) How you are connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) And what any error reports you receive state. -

How do Authors upload images?
From within the Post that they are writing by using the “Add Media” button. http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/
Authors cannot write Pages.
From: http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
Author
An author can edit, publish and delete their posts, as well as upload files/images. Authors do not have access to modify, add, delete, or publish pages.

@justjennifer
Thanks for the correction re: posts and pages. It makes perfect sense and I forgot that. -
OK, I have done as you suggested with no luck. There is no “Add Media” button.
-I have a MacBook Pro with OS X v10.6.8, connecting thru RoadRunner and using Firefox 22.0.
-Just to note I had two people try, on different platforms, one on the east coast one on the west, (one, my son, has two degrees from MIT in computer science), and neither could find that elusive “Add Media” button. -
When one of your authors hovers over their gravatar on the top right of the screen he should see a list of blogs he has access to. Are you sure they have accepted your invitation to be authors?
To confirm that, from your dashboard go to Users—>all users and you should see a list of who has what access to your blog.
