auto comment length limiter

  • Unknown's avatar

    I get comments totaling over the 1,000 character limit I’ve indicated as acceptable on my blog. I notice that the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has now imposed a 500 character limit on on-line comments and this works automatically and I’d like to emulate them.
    Someone just e-mailed me a link to a comment length limiter plugin at:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gregs-comment-length-limiter/

    I downloaded it and tried to follow the instructions in its ReadMe file:

    1. Unzip the plugin archive
    2. Upload the entire folder gregs-comment-length-limiter to /wp-content/plugins/
    3. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
    4. Go to Settings -> Comment Length Limiter to configure your preferences
    5. Update your template’s comments.php with one or two function calls, as described below

    I couldn’t figure out how to upload the folder to /wp-content/plugins/. In addition, I couldn’t find a “Plugins’ menu in WordPress.

    Is this possible currently with WordPress.com or should it be added to the wish list?

    Thanks! Martin

    There is no FTP access to free hosted wordpress.COM blog and we cannot install individual plugins into them. Please read this entire entry for clarity on the differences between free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM and software installs for wordpress.ORG for self hosting. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    @Martin,

    Interesting idea! I’ll move this thread to the Ideas Forum.
