Auto-generation of Spurious Comments in Admin mode
-
Spurious Comment entries are getting generated in Admin mode (without any Comment related actions).
Please let me know if you need additional details.

I’m not sure what you mean. How are you sure that comments are being generated without someone commenting?

Thanks.
‘Spurious Comment entries’ are no longer mysterious… The comment requests are generated when Zemanta recommendations entries selected are from self-blog(?). This causes inconvenience in two ways: (1) recent comments widget gets swamped with self-blog entries, and (2) the commented entries have to be handled – approved/deleted, etc.
The solution could be to have a Zemanta configuration setting for self-blog recommendation entries.
Hope this description has enough details.

That is very strange, I’ve never heard of that before. Are you saying that when you add an item from Zemanta, a comment is also added to the post?
-
Not exactly – when a ‘self-blog’ entry is selected from Zemanta suggestions, a Comment entry is created for the corresponding “pingback” entry.
Here is an example:
@ http://theneteconomy.wordpress.com/2011/11/09/multi-purpose-crew-vehicle-8/When Zemanta ‘self-blog’ recommendation
“Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (5) (theneteconomy.wordpress.com)”was selected, it auto-created a Comment entry. <Approve>ing that Comment entry resulted in the last “pingback”

Ah, that’s normal. A pingback is an automated comment sent to any entry that is linked to in the post. A nice way of saying “This post linked here.”
To stop that, uncheck “Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article” from Settings -> Discussion in your blog’s Dashboard.
