Auto redirect from wp.com to new self hosted site
-
I had free blog on wordpress.COM (www.tipsinarabic.com).
I set up a new self hosted site (www.sahha.org)and exported the old to the new then.Since the first was a 2 years old and getting decent traffic, I purchased the redirect from wordpress.COM to re-direct traffic from the old to the new site.
I did some changes in the architecture of the new site and it seems that many visitors are being directed to 404 pages.
Is there any way I can have the visitors directed to the home page (www.sahha.org) instead of what seems to be happening which is page to page?
Would greatly appreciate any pointers if there’s anything can be done.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The URL structure has to be exactly the same. If you change the permalink structure all you get is 404 broken page not found links.

Hi TT,
Sheesh, that’s no good.
I looked but seems there’s no way to do 301 redirect of pages from the wp.com. That correct?Thank you.

The site redirect will work ONLY if you do not change the permalink structure. And, Site redirects will only point to a non-ssl ( http:// ) url.

No.

OK, thanks.
I read that link before you provided before.I think they should have been a lot clearer about that particular detail (WITH A BIG WARNING!). It makes it look like the redirects would be to the home page.
Thanks again.

Hi!
I’ve updated the support document here:
The specific blurb is here:
Please note: In order for the Site Redirect to work correctly, the permalinks on the new site (the one you’re redirecting to) should match those at WordPress.com. WordPress.com uses the following permalink structure:
http://example.com/2014/10/21/sample-post/
If the new site you’re redirecting to does not use this permalink structure, the redirect will try to find a post on your new site that matches the post URL from your WordPress.com site, but some visitors may see an error message indicating no matching post could be found.
The latter half of that new segment is referred to as “slug matching.” Unfortunately, it’s not 100% accurate when the permalinks do not match.
