Auto update links in posts for republished post
-
Hi,
I’m going through and updating old posts then republishing. However, once republished, any URL linked within a different post is broken, due to WP replacing the original date with the new date in the URL. So, it’s a pain not only going through but remembering and time-consuming, all posts containing this new link.
Is there an easier or automatic way to update these broken links within already published posts?
Many thanks! :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your approach is not one I would ever use as breaking links creates an issue when it comes to Google search. I suggest that you reblog instead. See here https://en.support.wordpress.com/reblogs/

Hi @timethief,
Thanks for letting me know and I wasn’t aware of this SEO issue. Hard to keep abreast of SEO changes as there are so many, so frequently.
Last year, I was advised to do a republish by WP as the best way.
I’ve done major changes to the posts with additional images also for the posts I’m republishing.
I even found a post on republish but this doesn’t explain the pitfalls: https://wpsites.net/wordpress-tips/how-to-republish-a-wordpress-post/
I will try the reblog but it doesn’t look as clean on a site s a republish.
Thanks again.

That post does not in any way, shape or form touch on the all important SEO aspects. Without doubt, reblogging is the correct way to go.
You’re welcome and best wishes.

Hi again, yes, it was an example of the re-publishing and not everything else SEO.
The posts I’m re-publishing are ones that I published over 2 years’ ago and have hardly had any interaction. :)

I’ve just found this WP link on re-blogging your own post on your own site and aback in 2012, this wasn’t the thing to do as it was also considered as duplicate content. Any idea whi this has changed in WP?How do I reblog one of my posts
I’m not sure now whether to republish or reblog.
