Auto Update Pages when New Blog Post or Page is added

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I am writing this because I find it a bit inconvenient to keep updating each pages manually every time I added a new page or blog post.

Is there any function or plugins out there that can help me auto update a certain page(s) whenever I added a new blog post or page?

Or when I updated a page with new content, it will auto update another page and add on the new content.

I’m not too good at expressing it but that’s the gist of it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Every time you create a new post, it automatically appears on your site’s home page.

You can also utilize Category Pages, which will automatically add posts that are assigned the given category:

    Category Pages

Other pages that you create are static pages, and are meant to be manually updated:

So there is no way to auto update the “static pages” at all?

A WordPress.org site may have a solution that is more in line with your request.

Please visit the following link for a clear explanation of the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

If you’d like to know more about moving from WordPress.com to WordPress.org, let me know and I will forward additional information.

    Oh… interesting…

    How do I start?
I tried to install WordPress.org last night but I’m stuck…. I might need some help with the installation….

And do I need prior knowledge to php?

Since I only know a little bit of javascript, html and css.

One other idea of updating lists of your own site’s posts on static pages is to use our Display Posts Shortcode:

The Daily Post: Help Readers Find the Good Stuff: Organize Posts with Shortcodes

    Support: Display Posts Shortcode

But if that shortcode isn’t enough for your uses, a self-hosted site with plugins available might be right for you like Paul suggested.

The first step to installing WordPress in a self-hosted environment is to purchase hosting. Some hosts even offer automatic WordPress installation:

    Hosting

If your hosting service does not provide automatic installation, you can use the “Famous Five-Minute Install” to add WordPress to your server:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Famous_5-Minute_Install

We also have a Guided Transfer service that can move your WordPress.com site to a self-hosted site for a one-time fee:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

Unless you plan to create your own plugins and themes, you won’t need to know PHP.

Interesting…. I’ll be sure to take a look at them when I have the time.

    Thank you very much, @alexjgustafson.

    That was very insightful.

By the way, just to clarify.

If I use the Shortcode for example.

And if I have 2 different post that have different tags with 1 similarity.

    E.g. Post 1 tag = Page 1, SILVALAU.
    Post 2 tag = Page 2, SILVALAU.

    And if I use [display-posts tag="Page 2, SILVALAU"]

Will it display the content that is tagged in Page 1 as well?

Since according to the link you gave me, they mentioned that it can only display a limit of 100 post.

So I’m thinking of I have exceeded 100 post, what should I do in that case.

In your example, the shortcode will display any posts with either the tag Page 2 or the tag SILVALAU, so the shortcode will display both post 1 and post 2.

But also using your example, this shortcode…

    [display-posts taxonomy="tag" tax_term="Page 2" taxonomy_2="tag" tax_2_term="SILVALAU"]

… would only display Post 2, because this shortcode requires a post must have both the Page 2 tag and the SILVALAU tag.

Since according to the link you gave me, they mentioned that it can only display a limit of 100 post.
So I’m thinking of I have exceeded 100 post, what should I do in that case.

Each shortcode can only display 100 posts, but you can use multiple shortcodes with the offset argument to display more. You’ll just need to add another shortcode each time you’re at the end of each 100 post portion. Here’s an example…

Let’s say you have 150 posts with the tag “fanfic” and you want to display them all, plus future ones on a page. You’d add both of these shortcodes to the page to make that work:

    [display-posts tag="fanfic" posts_per_page="100"]
    [display-posts tag="fanfic" posts_per_page="100" offset="100"]

The first shortcode displays the first 100 posts. The second shortcode will display the 2nd 100 posts. Once you write post #201, you’ll need to add a 3rd shortcode that looks like this:

    [display-posts tag="fanfic" posts_per_page="100" offset="200"]

    Make sense?

Ohh makes perfect sense, thanks @alexjgustafson ^^
