Auto Update to 3.1.1 NOT working

  This is regarding my site that I have hosted with TMDHosting. On my dashboard, it says to update to 3.1.1 and when I try is says it failed. They uploaded WPmu for me when I opened the account and they sent me instructions to manually do it. I am experienced enough to do that I dont think.

  So, can you someone break it down in laymans terms,.

  I unzip the new file and delete and replace which files and WHERE are these file?

  Second, if there is an easier way to get the auto update to work that would be better
