Auto-updating "Featured Blogs" widget?
-
Another blog I frequently read (www.restokin.com) that is as far as I can tell hosted at wordpress.com has a “featured blogs” section that automatically updates with the most recent posts from the blogs she’s designated. It lists the name of the blog, the name of the post, and how long ago it was posted. I’ve tried searching for the widget that does this to put it in my own blog, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Is it a premium (paid-only) widget?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m sorry but that site is not a free blog from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM so we cannot help you with it. WordPress.COM blogs and wordpress.org installs operate on different code. The correct support forum to get support for that blog is here > http://wordpress.ORG/support

Now when it comes to the wordpress.COM blog linked to your username take note that we do have RSS widgets we can install on our blogs. The RSS Widget displays posts from any RSS feed. You might find this handy if you want to show off one of your other blogs, or one of your favorite blogs, in your sidebar. Please see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/rss-widget/

Ah, I see. I’d tinkered with the RSS widget for other blogs, but it seems I have to add the widget multiple times – once for each blog I want to “feature”. I was just wondering if I could do the same thing as listed on the other blog, where it shows the 5 most recently updated blogs, out of the 30 or so she has listed.

Yes you must set up and install a separate RSS widget for each blog. No you cannot do what you request. All we can do is stated here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/rss-widget/ WordPress.com is a blogging platform. It’s set up for individual bloggers to publish their own original content and make it available for others to read and comment on. It’s not set up to be an a aggregation platform driving traffic to other blogs. There’s no way I would be featuring links to 30 posts in someone elses’ blog in my sidebar now or ever. Sidebar “tat” distracts my readers away from reading my posts and that’s why I blog ie. to share what I have to say with my readers.
