automate blog exporting
-
Is there a way to automate blog exporting? I run a search into both faq and forum and didnt’ find anything.
I just would like to have a daily backup of my blog, the same way you obtain when you export into an xml file from the dashboard.
Maybe one can use the wget command line utility from a linux box?
I just found solutions for people on a hosting different from wordpress.com, but I would like to stay on wp.com.
Thank you.

I have written an export import script in Bash. It uses wget. Not too difficult. You obviously know what you are doing:)

Could you please be so kind to post it over there or into your blog?
Thank you.
PS Yes I should know what I am doing.

When I said I had written a script – I am sorry but I did not say it was freely available.:) The big thing is backing up the images. But you could keep copies in a separate folder anyway.

Did you mean “It’s easy enough you can do it yourself” or did you mean “Ha, ha, you can’t have it?”

:-D No, unfortunately I am not a linux guru. Since I do not really care for images, could you please let us have a look at the few lines where you make the script download the xml file with the backup of the blog? That is the part I am interested the most. Or else, at least tell us which address should be used into wget to download the xml file. How do you login to wordpress, with the authentication option built into wget? If I may ask, of course :-)
