Automatic Formatting Problem
-
I have a problem that is similar to inearnestexpectation’s, but the solution that worked in that case are not helping in mine. Basically, the problem is that, except for the top post on the page, all the rest of the posts are in ital. The posts on the most recent older page of entries, though, are fine.
Can you help me figure out what’s wrong?

It’s the same problem. You have an opening italics tag before the more tag and no closing tag. If you open that first post in the html editor you will see
<p><em> <a href="http://libertystreet.wordpress.com/2009/01/16/lets-not-forgive-and-forget/#more-5172" class="more-link">Read the rest of this entry »</a></p>is the code for italics. Take that out.

Or just check the ‘correct invalidly nested XHTML’ box in your settings:

I must be missing something. I have been staring at that first post in the html editor for a full minute, and I see an tag before the word More and an tag after the word More. (And it doesn’t say “Read the rest of this entry” in the html editor; it just says More, with an arrow.)
I know I’m missing something. I just can’t figure out what it is.

Whoops. I didn’t realize putting the tag in here would make ital. That should read, “… and I see an opening ital tag before the word More and a closing ital tag after the word More.”

I fixed it. I simply took out the entire More coding and put it back in. It wasn’t that there was no closing ital tag; the ital tags should not have been there at all. And I still don’t understand how they got there. I inserted the More tag when I first created the post in the Visual window. And even if I had done it in the html window, it shouldn’t automatically create ital tags. So I have no idea. But it’s fixed.

Tellyworth, thank you for that settings tip. I didn’t know that existed, and probably wouldn’t have known what it meant if I had. :-)
