Automatic Forum Double Posting
-
The forum software created a self replicating thread – two threads show – note the exact same Post title, no number appended to the title, which is the normal forum naming system
Good luck on this one

Lower occurrence of Post – shows only 1 reply – but the same title – but when I clicked on it there were 4 mirror posts of the above thread

Note the upper showing shot showing two Posts – but when I clicked on the bottom Post showing only one Post the Post I put in the top thread was copied into the lower one reply thread – then when I posted into the lower forum thread (that was showing one Post in the forum but actually had two Posts – when I posted into the lower Post about the duplicate thread – the duplicate thread note was copied into the upper thread – mirror images of each other

Thanks –
and it was a bit of a struggle to figure it out and figure out what was happening and then to get things documented so it made a bit of sense
-
Thanks for everything you documented – it made it a lot easier to see what you were talking about. :)
-
You be welcome – I try and give the team a bit of a shot of what is happening :)
I used to do industrial software – both new code and bug fixes – and the better the description of what was happening the factory floor gave me the better chance I had of fixing things quickly & correctly – so I try and give a good description – gives the fix it team a better shot
And yes I also got the vague “all messed up” tickets also – but the language was usually not family friendly – had a high success rate also if I do brag a bit
-
And the “original” thread resolutely stays at “replies=1” in the URL even though the current number of replies are indicated in the thread sidebar.
Probably better to click through from the OP’s profile.

Our developers looked into this and weren’t able to reproduce, and think it was just a weird glitch. The duplicate thread was deleted.
If this continues to happen, please let us know, but for now we’re hoping it was a one-time perfect storm. :)
-
and weren’t able to reproduce,
But if you can reproduce it that takes all the challenge out of things :)
Takes a real Artist to fix the ones that happen but can’t be reproduced on demand. yes I speak from personal experience
Thanks for checking
We do have duplicate Posts show up on a regular basis, could this be related to that “feature”? This was the first time that the Posting from one occurred in the second Post – it looked like there was a single database record but two forum entries pointing to the same database record
-
Sometimes it looks like a user posted the same thread twice on their own, possibly due to browser caching or something, and those threads are actually distinct – in other words, comments on one thread don’t appear in the other. That’s a different thing. Still frustrating, mind you, but different.
-
yes The others were distinct threads, sort of like they clicked twice on the submit button or the mouse contacts bounced, my old mouse started to have the contacts bounce once in a while, was really a mess until I got a new one
