Automatic re-sizing of all images on blog
-
Hi Folks,
My wordpress site just re-sized all the images on my blog so they look super small (messed up a bunch of my formats and things). But when I try to resize the images in the dashboard editor, they’re still all the right size, but I can’t seem to fix the problem (when I click update, it just defaults back to the small size). Do you have any idea how I can fix this? (preferably one solution that fixes the whole blog, rather than re-sizing every image, if possible).
Thank you!

I just looked at your site, a few posts, and they look normal so perhaps you are experiencing some browser issues:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/Is there only one post where this problem is happening, or is it occurring throughout your site? Because I just don’t see it.

Similar problem here. Images on several of my blog posts have changed size. Specifically, images that I made smaller for publishing have returned to their original size.
Just one example of this can be seen on this post:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2013/08/15/who-knew/But the problem seems to apply to all resized pictures on my blog:

Oh, by the way, I have checked this problem in different browsers on different computers. Issue remains.

I posted a quick explanation of changes and some possible short term solutions at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/photos-have-become-small-and-off-centered?replies=18#post-1448135

I’ve reviewed all the forum questions I could find tagged with “image size changes” and I wanted to add an update here to say I left a note about your question editor image sizes at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/automatic-re-sizing-of-all-images-of-blog?replies=4#post-1450488

@littlecrumcreek, can you try adjusting the medium size for images on the Settings > Media page in your blog dashboard?
-
Just to be clear, my current issue is this:
Sometimes, when I upload photos to a post, I will change the width and height in the “Text” tab of my “Edit Post” page. That way, photos will appear side-by-side on a published post (instead of one above another). But now, suddenly, on the published end, all of my width & height changes have been undone and the photos in the post appear one on top of the other. Each photo in my past posts might have unique height & width dimensions, so I’m nervous about going in there myself and adjusting something that will affect 3 years worth of posts.I had a very similar (if not the same) problem in December 2011. You can see the problem and resolution on this thread:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wp-changed-format-of-my-pictures-why/page/6?replies=176#post-761800
If wordpress is working on a fix to my current issue, as they did in 2011, I’ll just wait and let the pros handle it. Will that happen? Thanks for responding directly to my issue. But, frankly, I don’t have the time just now to piece together all the advice on these threads and troubleshoot.

Can you link to a specific example so I can take a closer look?

Mis imagenes de la entrada se agrandaron solas y estan superpuestas.
Eran de tamaño pequeño y ahora estan mas grandes. No se como solucionarlo. Muchas gracias -
@designsimply, Here’s a specific example of my issue (the second and third pictures should be smaller and side-by-side rather than one above the other):
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2013/08/15/who-knew/You will recognize the same issue in these posts:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2013/08/10/the-young-and-the-restless/
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2013/08/05/the-red-spotted-purple/
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2013/05/18/an-encouraging-find/See what I mean?
-
@littlecrumcreek, I see it now. Thank you for providing some specific example posts for me!
I think this is a bug happening just for portrait oriented images, and I’ve made a request to see if we can get all of them fixed at once. Please watch this thread for updates: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/images-resizing?replies=2

@littlecrumcreek, the issue with the portrait oriented images has been fixed. Woohoo! Can you check to see if your posts look like they did before the image resizing update?
-
@designsimply, My posts almost look like they did before the image resizing update. But the vertical outside margins of the portrait-oriented images should align with the landscape-oriented (is that the right term?) images in each post.
You can see how the outer margins of the portrait and landscape photos don’t line up in the following posts (to name just a few):
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2013/08/10/the-young-and-the-restless/
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2013/08/05/the-red-spotted-purple/
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2013/05/18/an-encouraging-find/However, for some reason, portrait & landscape photos have aligned properly in this post (thus, this is an example of how those 3 posts above should look) :
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/a-secret-safe-from-me/Thank you for working with me on this!

For the first three posts you linked, try updating Settings > Media > Large size to 492 x 492. (Or if that’s a little too small, try 494 x 494.)
In the case of the last post you mentioned, the images’ HTML were modified and the “size-medium” and “size-large” class names were removed. Those class names are how the image size settings work. You can disconnect images from the Settings > Media sizes if the class names are removed.

Thank you. I see how your suggestion to update Settings>Media>Large size will troubleshoot the affected posts that we’ve been discussing.
However, I just browsed all the posts I’ve done over the past three years, and now see that the issue requires much more work than that troubleshooting solution can accommodate.
This might seem crazy, but I’m just going to list every single problem post, for whatever it’s worth:
Post still shows portrait images one above the other (instead of side by side) and some images larger than others:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2013/05/09/hairy-bitter-pretty/First two landscape photos should be side by side. Final two portrait photos have mismatched sizes & text below them shouldn’t be indented:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2011/06/27/no-ordinary-robin/slightly different portrait size:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2012/04/12/a-birds-eye-view/Photos two, three, and four should be side by side in a row:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2010/12/20/put-one-foot-in-front-of-the-others/First photo should be as long as the text beside it. Bottom photo should be as wide as the post will allow:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2010/06/27/eastern-garter-snake/Photo should be as wide as post will allow:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2010/05/01/tracking/Second and Third photo should be one above the other and beside the first picture (all three forming the shape of a box):
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2011/07/31/leaves-of-three-friends-foe/Slightly mis-sized, mis-aligned portrait:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2011/09/22/spotted-jewelweed/I think the two smaller portrait photos should be one above the other and beside the larger shadow photo so that all three together form a box shape:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2011/04/25/constellation-of-our-complicity-not-beyond-the-moon-but-a-thing-beneath-our-shoon/The same design as above, but this post has two groups of three to form two separate box shapes (the two smaller portrait photos should be one above the other and beside the larger photo so that all three together form a box shape):
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2011/04/13/the-brothers-boxelder/Mis-sized & mis-aligned portrait photos. Also, fifth & sixth photos should be aligned side by side:

http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2011/03/11/afield-in-search-of-the-pileated-woodpecker/Second and third photos should be one above the other beside the first photo, forming a box:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2010/12/06/yes-even-the-buck-stops-here/The first three photos should be smaller & all beside one another, and they should be above the final photo:
http://littlecrumcreek.wordpress.com/2010/11/22/whatever-happened-to/The first three photos should be smaller & all beside one another, and they should be above the fourth photo. I think the sixth and seventh photos should be side by side and beneath the fifth photo:

@littlecrumcreek, I now have a tool that will let me remove all size-thumbnail, size-medium, and size-large classes from a blog. Doing that is a pretty huge change, and I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone, but if you have manually entered specific sizes for all of your images, then your blog would be a good candidate for the tool.
I’m not sure what you’ve been changing in the mean time since the first image update happened, but I could go through one specific post with you and remove the classes by hand to show you how it will look after the tool is run. If that sounds good, send me a link to a post I can modify, preferably one you haven’t changed since 9/20.
-
@designsimply, That sounds good. Let’s see how a post will look after the tool is run. Here are two candidates (by the way, I haven’t changed any posts since 9/20):
