  I’m about to sign up. But I don’t want automatic renewal. How do I go about doing that within the first 30 days — like now.

  You can turn off auto-renewal at any moment as explained here:
  https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/#automatic-renewal

  Bear in mind that all our subscriptions are chared annually, we do not offer monthly payments.

  You can purchase any plan you’d like to try and, if you’re not happy, you can cancel and obtain a refund within the first 30 days. If you register a custom domain, however, you could only opt for a full refund during the first 96 hours. After that time, we could only refund the cost of the plan minus the cost of the domain.
