Also don’t overlook the fact that Mark did reply and this is what he said:

We will look into it, but the fact is that those sites will not stop. They are breaking terms already and they know it. Their webhosts don’t care either. Copyright can be exerted with no notice.

Following the steps that Lorelle has blogged on and that I gave you the link to above and, if necessary, hiring legal counsel and pursuing these matters in the courts is really all that we can do.

hi timethief. Thank you for getting back to me. I am not sure about a couple of items. I did not know that we could use plug-in’s in WordPress, nor do I know which plug-in to download to what section or widget. Can you be more specific with me? Thank you.

Secondly, we are all doing the best we can for today and we are all learning. Different disabilities have different limitations. Per my invisible disability, I seek clarity to compensate for my learning disability. I have empathy for and advocate for people with disabilities. Thank you for disclosing yours to me in general way. God bless you. Identification rather than comparision empowers.

Lastly, thank you for sharing what you have in your third paragraph. There is not such thing as a happy victim. As an empowered person I seek to learn. Week after week seems to be very condescending, in the tone set forth. The reason why I wanted to deal directly with Dr. Mike is so I would not have to keep asking for clarity with in the forums. I need to ask questions in several ways so that I can obtain the clarity that I need.

I am sorry that I am living up to your expectations of me timethief, but they are not my expectation for me. With that being said, thank you for your time and what you have been able to give.

    I

We cannot as individual bloggers use plug-ins here at wordpress.com. But there is a feed copyright notice plug-in available at wordpress.org.

Knowing this, what I was suggesting is that the plug-in be installed on this wordpress.com multiuser blogging platform just like Akismet is. That way it could be activated across the whole blogging platform on every wordpress.com blog.

I am on board with you timethief. Thank you again for your time. Have a pleasant weekend.

Has there been any updates on this subject? my blog is getting blog scraped right now on every post I make, and was just curious if any progress was being made.

  • Unknown's avatar

No I’m afraid that we have not heard anything about this idea at all.

  • Unknown's avatar

“There have been a lot of questions recently about how to deal with blog scrapers, and i thought it might be useful to put up a step-by-step guide for sending a DMCA notice (or not).”

Has this been resolved? Is there a way for us to post a copyright warning on our material?

  • Unknown's avatar

No this has not been resolved. We can place a copyright line in every post going out on rss feeds.

  • Unknown's avatar

Here’s an alternative that can be used on wordpress.com blogs. If you register you can get a copyright image notice for your posts and then automatically register and fingerprint every blog or podcast entry you post. http://myfreecopyright.com/

  • Unknown's avatar

I have marked this thread “resolved”.

  • Unknown's avatar

You bumped a week old thread of yours announcing that you marked it as resolved when you can very easily mark it as resolved without bumping it?

  • Unknown's avatar

OOPS! I forgot to say thanks to all those bloggers from both wordpress.com and wordpress.org who keep hitting on this post and clicking through to my blog looking for information. I find it almost every day in my referrals. I have also received numerous emails and contact form messages on the same subject.

    (1) If you have downloaded a template from wordpress.org then you can use these plugins:
    (a) Angsuman’s Feed Copyrighter
Inserts copyright message in Feeds. The message is of the standard format (can be customized): Copyright © 2007 YOUR BLOG NAME. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. If you are not reading this material in your news aggregator, the site you are looking at is guilty of copyright infringement. Please contact legal@BLOG_ADDRESS so we can take legal action immediately. By Angsuman Chakraborty.

    (b) Digital fingerprint
This plugin enables you to easily and quickly search the web for potential cases of plagiarism and content theft. It works by adding a customizable “digital fingerprint” to your RSS feed in posts that you select (or all posts if you wish). You can then easily monitor the blogosphere for your digital fingerprint in the hopes of finding potential content thieves and scrapers abusing your content. By Kirk Montgomery.

    (c) Check IP behind proxy
Check for client public IP sent by proxies in HTTP headers By Ricardo Galli.

If you are a wordpress.com blogger then you cannot use the rss feed plugins listed above. Your choices are limited to posting the following notices:
    (a) Creative Commons licenses licenses provide a flexible range of protections and freedoms for authors, artists, and educators.

    (b) Defend your rights online, fight against online plagiarism and content theft. Copyscape finds sites that have copied your content without permission, …

    (c) MyFreeCopyright.com is a secure, public third party service that provides a FREE historical Copyright registration that Protects your original creations.

    Happy blogging. :)

    w00t!
We have a new feature so this issue is now resolved.

On the Options -> Reading page under feed syndication we now have these enhnaced features.

    Enhanced Feeds
    For each article, show:
    _____ Categories
    _____ Tags
    _____ Comment count
    _____ Add to Stumbleupon
    _____ Add to Del.icio.us
    _____ Add to Digg.com
    _____ Copyright notice
Changes may not appear until you create a new post or your news reader refreshes.

    Thanks so much staff. :)

  • timethief, you jumped the gun. We’re not quite ready to launch that feature yet, it slipped in accidentally.

  • Sorry Timethief, the copyright part of that feature isn’t quite ready for production just yet. It will go in, just not today.

    @matt and donncha
You should know by now that some of us do look in the corners and under the rug here at .com almost daily. :-)

  • Unknown's avatar

    OOPS! I’m sorry I flushed the covey early. {red faced}

But I’m also delighted with this pending Winter Solstice gift. :)

I would also like to see this plug in. My blog is not even terribly big and even it is getting ripped off daily by splogs. I’ve even contemplated manually adding a copyright statement to the end of each blog post, but that seems like a bit of overkill.

  • Unknown's avatar

Nevermind, I just saw the enhanced RSS feed thread – and it’s already been done. Yay!
