Automatically Create Links as I Type

I have a website that gives people weekly alerts about where to find the finest wildflower blooming events in the Chicago region. (Yes, the Chicago region offers more native plant species than any national park.)

During each post, I type in “Virginia bluebells” and I turn it into a link using a url from an Illinois wildflower website along with targeting it to open up in a new window. However, there are dozens and dozens of wildflowers and it’s very time-consuming and tedious to create links for every flower. Is there a way to have WordPress automatically create a link as I type? I’d create a bunch of these links ahead of time and, as I type, it replaces it with a link.

I did download the Simple Links plugin, but it doesn’t seem to work this way. It just places links along a sidebar or whatever. It’s hard to figure out what it does, actually.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Mike

A couple more things. I don’t want to create a blogroll. Plus, the flowers are changing all time and the list in the blogroll would be huge. That’s why I’d like the links to be inline with the text to make it easy for people to use, especially when on their smart phones.
