automatically renewed but no purchases showing

  • Unknown's avatar

I have recently been billed by my bank for £100 – I’m guessing this might be automatic renewal but was never sent any reminders of this (not in Junk folders or Deleted Items). On the ‘manage purchases’ section of my account there is no record of any transaction.

    Hi Austin

I’ve never created a site – this charge must relate solely to my account

I tried finding out the details using the wpchrg page but it refused to accept the details I entered

I have contacted billing support without reply

  • Howdy,

Let’s see what we can figure out.

Did the charge have any other information you can share with us to help track the source down?

Is it possible that you had a website elsewhere that was a site using the open-source WordPress software from WordPress.org, but hosted elsewhere?

If that is the case, I’m afraid we’re not going to be able to assist. We can only help with sites that are hosted here on WordPress.com. You’ll need to contact the webhost you were using and talk to them about a refund.

If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and the open-source WordPress software you can read this article:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

No, it’s not a charge relating to an actual site, it’s to do with opening an account with WordPress as a company. I know it says on the terms & services that the default is ‘automatic renewal’ but it also says a) there are ways of removing this from within your profile (I can’t find any) and b) you are sent reminders before the renewal takes place (I wasn’t). This is why I’m contesting the payment and I am prepared to close my account when I am refunded the money

  • We have absolutely no history of purchases, transactions, or billing activity of any kind under the account you’re currently logged into.

If you enter the charge details at https://wpchrg.wordpress.com/ we should be able to help you with this.

If you the charge is located using the above site, but you are not presented further options, please contact us via https://wordpress.com/support/contact/?whywasi=charged

I tried entering the details at https://wpchrg.wordpress.com/ but it refused to recognise them, possibly for the reasons you’ve stated. And yet WordPress has just taken £100 out of my bank account, and I know I paid a sum last year to open an account from which I could start building a website. I never built that site, and forgot all about the account. I appreciate that in the terms and services it states that the account has a default renewal every year, but it also says that I would be warned/advised in advance before that fee was taken.

We cannot only help with billing issues on the public forum if the poster is the account which owns the purchase, and we have absolutely no history of purchases, transactions, or billing activity of any kind under the account you’re currently logged into.

OK, I’ve sent a request via that link, not had a response yet

You may not have any history of purchases, etc. but you must have a history of my debit card details because that’s where you’ve taken £100 from!

Also it’s a month before the end of the first year of my subscription. I know it says in the T&S that this may happen, emphasising it’s my responsibility to check for reminder e-mails…I have checked, spam and everything, and never received one. And I cannot cancel my subscription if no purchases are showing in my account.

  • Our billing team will get back to you with more details.
To track down the transaction we’ll need to get some additional information from you which we cannot discuss here in the public forums.

Also, just to be clear, WordPress.com subscriptions are always associated with a site – we do not charge users simply to create an account.

OK, sorry to bother you, it’s all worked out now – I hadn’t realised I had created two accounts using two different emails and it’s the other one that the money was taken from. It seems to have been refunded now, so case closed.
