  How do I set this up so that my viewers automatically receive an e-mail when a new post is published?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there,

  For viewers to opt into receiving an e-mail whenever you update your blog, you’ll want to install the follow-blog widget. This will enable both WordPress.com users and general people on the internet to receive updates via e-mail.

  You add the widget to your sidebar from Appearance → Widgets, and then you can confirm or adjust the default settings.

  If you already have some people in mind, you can send them an invitation to follow your blog by e-mail and by their feed through the steps below:

  Invite People to Follow Your Blog

  Your followers are the people who have signed up to receive updates each time you publish new content. They do not have any editing privileges. If your blog is public, anyone can follow it, but you may want to send out invitations to specific people who you’d like to share your blog with.

  If you would like to remove the user from your site instead, select People -> Add in your My Sites menu.

  Type the user’s email address or WordPress.com username.

  Select Follower from the dropdown.

  Click the Send Invitation button. When your friend accepts the invite, they’ll receive an email update each time you publish a new post.

  Thank you for this information. What if I have already invited people as “viewer” and they have accepted the invitation. How do I now give them the role of e-mail follower, I don’t see how to change their role? I am trying to keep my blog private. I don’t see the “e-mail follower” in my drop down box?

  Hi again,
  If you have already invited people as “viewers” and they have accepted the invitation, they should still receive an e-mail when you update their blog. I tested this out just now, and received an e-mail from my experiment blog. =)

  One thing to keep in mind about your subscribers: according to this document, it is up to each user how often they want to receive e-mails from WordPress through their Subscription Management page, where they can manage all blogs they follow and adjust their email delivery frequency.
