Automattic cookie policy banner

On my site, the message to accept cookies from automatic stays on the screen, whether you accept them or not. I can’t get rid of the banner. Once accepted, it should re-load the page and be gone for good. But what’s happening is that the message is like a boomerang and keeps on coming. This must be off-putting for my visitors. I have a bog standard wordpress.com site with no plugins. This has literally just happened without me doing anything, and I can’t find any settings to change it. Is anyone else having this issue and can anyone fix it please ?

We automatically show the banner on free sites, because we display ads. You’ve added an extra copy of the default banner via your footer widget. If you’ll remove that you should be able to see the banner then close and accept it. Let us know if you need more help!
