Autoreply from Signup form

    Dear Support,

I am having issues with setting up a widget that serves as an autoresponder to users that sign up on my wordpress blog. The user signups that go through the website come addressed from wordpress.com instead of the actual email address of the user who signed up. This causes an issue because I cannot use my email’s out of office reply function to respond to users.

Is there a way to do this in wordpress, or would I need a separate API to grab the email inputted from the user to send them a autoreply?

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Howdy,

With the contact form on your site, we do set a Reply-To header to the e-mail address as indicated in the submission. I’d expect an out-of-office responder to be able to reply using that?

Has your autoresponder had issue with that?

    Cheers!

When a user signs up for a form, the responder that comes forwarded to our email address is sent from wordpress. Unfortunately replying to wordpress with our autoresponder wouldn’t allow us to contact the user who just signed up.

I need a way to auto-respond to a user who just entered his email address into one of our required signup forms. Hopefully you guys have a method of doing this without separately building out an api.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

In your e-mail client, can you set it to view additional headers. With that enabled, you’ll see what I’m referencing. With a test e-mail I sent using a contact form on WordPress.com, the headers include:

To: [[the e-mail address listed in Settings->General for the blog]]
From: Kraft <(email visible only to moderators and staff)>
    Subject: [Site Title
Message-ID: <(email visible only to moderators and staff)>
    X-Priority: 3
Reply-To: User Name <the e-mail address listed in the form>

With most e-mail clients and I’d expect with an autoresponder, it would respond to the Reply-To field.

We don’t change the From address to prevent being listed as spam and to help ensure e-mail deliverability (avoiding issues with domains with poor scoring on e-mail blacklists, etc).

    Thanks!

I’ve set up the autoresponder in my outlook email and it works fine for direct emails from contacts, however, it does not seem to be sending out automated messages for users who sign up through the form even though the replyto: indicates the user’s email address that they’ve signed up with.

Is this a email platform issue? or am I missing something.

  • Hi,

I think it may be something either misconfigured with Outlook or a behavior with Outlook that is less than ideal. I tested this on my end using Thunderbird (the mail program I have installed on my computer) and it sent the auto-response to the Reply-To address.

    Cheers!

    Hi,

Unfortunately that doesn’t help me in setting up my automated reply. Is there anyone on your team that can assist me with figuring out a solution?

    Thanks

  • Which version of Outlook are you using? It may be faster to contact Microsoft/check their support documentation since this is an issue with Outlook possibly not following e-mail conventions rather than WordPress.com. That said, if I can find a solution for you, I will. :-)
