Autosave and the 'new improved' interface
-
I know I’ve mentioned this in another thread, but the Autosave feature, which seems to kick in whenever I’ve typed more than about three words, is really annoying me now. (I know I’m not the only person who has the same issue, because I’ve just been browsing the forums and found the same gripe from a number of other users.)
Five minutes would be a perfectly adequate interval at which a draft can be saved. My word processor is set to back up every five minutes, and that’s fine for my purposes. ‘Every few seconds’, which by your own admission is the default setting, is totally impractical and frustrating.
I’ve taken to writing my entries on a word processor and then copying and pasting them into the WordPress editor, because for anything more time-consuming than a Tweet the autosave feature is more of a hindrance than a help.
In fact, I’d go as far as to say that the entire ‘new improved’ interface is a major setback for average users like myself. I don’t have the time or the knowledge to go about setting up a self-hosted blog, so I use a number of free WordPress blogs instead. The original interface, which I used quite happily from 2008 until the ‘improved’ version came on stream, was perfectly adequate for me.
I started a subsidiary blog a few weeks ago and was delighted to find the old interface still in place. Needless to say, as soon as I started editing my first post, the beep beep boop occurred and I was wading through the quicksand again.
Please could you offer your users a choice of ‘classic’ versus ‘new’ interface as soon as they log in, and apply this decision globally whenever we come to post a new entry? Otherwise (and I hate to say this) I’m seriously thinking of experimenting with other software providers and migrating my entire content (all eleven blogs, spanning some eight years) if I find one that’s easier to navigate and less time-consuming to use in an everyday setting.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
