autosave makes WordPress unusable and loses work

The switch to the “new” 1970s block editor has been as disaster costing me hours of unproductive time.

Now autosave kicks in every 10 minutes and never ends, and lose VERY precise work such as reference updates. This almost never used to happen, and when it did it was my fault.

This is just awful, awful – WordPress was real pleasure now I need to find a way to move off fast – is there any way of turning this off?

  • Hi oxmark, that isn’t normal. Sounds like something may be wrong in the browser, since we are not seeing the same issue you’ve described.

Can you send more details about your system / browser? Can you create a test page (it can be private so no one but staff sees it) and use that to see if you can reproduce the same error in another browser?

Also, for now I’d recommend using the classic editor temporarily, while also providing info so we can help you troubleshoot this issue you’re seeing. Here’s how to use it:

But I don’t recommend relying on that long term. We’ll want to resolve any issues you’re running into instead, since the block editor (created over the past few years) is almost ubiquitous now and the Classic editor will be phased out at some point.
