AutoSave: Please provide options

When autosave is slow for reasons such as described here
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/visual-editor-freezes?replies=5#post-292392
it is maddening. The save can take up to 2 min, in which case one is left with mere seconds to work before the browser locks up again. If it takes 2 min or more the saves seem to chain such that the browser is entirely unavailable for extended periods. Needless to say this is not appreciated.

Please please please either make it possible to
    – disable autosave entirely, or
    – set the time between saves (2, 5, 10, and 20 min?)
    – other (you may know possible solutions I am unaware of).

    Please?

My suggestion is go get a blog client such as Windows Live Writer or BlogDesk if you are on Windows, or something like Mac Journal if you are on Mac. That way you bypass any internet or wordpress server issues entirely and your blogging life will be much smoother and less stressful.

The reason autosave came into being was to protect bloggers from themselves. Before it was implemented, we had post after post here in the forums from people who had written 40,000 words of what was surely going to get them a Nobel Prize and never saved it once, and then they pushed the publish button, an internet connection was dropped or there was a server issue at wordpress, and that prize winning essay of why fish have gills was only a memory.

Seriously, look into offline blog clients, they are the only way to go in my opinion: http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2007/10/26/offline-blog-editors-reviews/ .
