autostart=yes Not Working

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello All,

I wanted to help with getting more customers at a bar I work at so I decided WordPress would be the best solution since I do not have much web experience. I noticed several differences between the WordPress I installed from my FreeBSD server and the one that is offered for free online. (With your hosting.)

The question I have is on the Free Online site (ASH Lounge): I am trying to run a music player upon the first landing of the homepage. The embedded player works, and so does the loop command, however the autostart command does not work…

Is this a limitation to the Free Version? Is there a way to autostart this player?

    Thanks in advance.

The WP audio player doesn’t allow autoplay. See here for an alternative > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/12/05/alternative-audio-players/

    Aside:
Autoplay music can be off putting. Many of us are not pleased when someone else’s choice of music blasts at us when we enter a site so we click out never to return again.

Thank you, I will look into the alternative players tomorrow morning sometime and see what can be done.

I agree, I hate music blasting on a site that I visit. However, I do feel as though it is appropriate for a Night Club site. I do plan on being considerate and keeping the volume to a very low level as I do not want to scare people away.

    Thanks again for the info

I many times have an audio feed already going when I am working and viewing the web – if I go to a site that trashes over the existing feed – bye bye bye bye

Like TT says – you don’t get a second chance.

I agreed, I hate music blasting on a site that I land on. However, some sites should be expected to play a song. (See above comment).

Just out of curiosity, have you visited club websites? Wouldn’t you expect music? This way you can have a feel for the type of club it is you are going to?

It takes very little effort for a visitor to click “play”. If they want to hear your music then make it obvious where to find and audition it. I’d recommend not force feeding them though. I browse with music playing in the background constantly and if a site tries to play something on top of that I leave in a hurry!

I apreaciate all you input, I really do. I will take all this into cosideration upon finalizing the site.

I do however have one last comment I would like to make,.. If it takes such little effort to press play, then why would it be so hard for one to press pause?

I typically have from 4-20 tabs open at a given time. It would take me awhile to figure out the music was coming from one of them, rather than the street, the neighbors, a malfunction on my computer.

You are building a site for a club, so I understand why you’d want to use music. In that context, users will find it less irritating, it’s true. The primary pushback comes thanks to Myspace and all those goddam Coldplay fanatics with their glitchy autostart music.
