  I cannot crop an image I have uploaded for my avatar. My avatar is now a square black box, which looks awful, as you can see :(

  What do I do?

  If you are using an image with transparency it will turn black. You must use another one without transparency. It can be either a gif, jpg or png but it must be pre-sized to 128 pixels x 128 pixels prior to uploading.

  Here are some other things to note:
  (1) there is a thread to test avatars in https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=8515
  (2) there is a time delay before avatars begin to display in all wp.com locations
  (3) avatars are not displayed on posts
  (4) avatars are displayed on comments you leave on other wordpress.com blogs and on your own wp.com blog, provided that you are signed in
  (5) avatars display first on the worpress.com tag pages and here on the forum and following a time delay then they display on comments too

  Yeah, same issue for me. And it’s not a transparency issue as the one I had prior to the new one I tried to create, worked fine. So I tried to reload that one…and got the same black box.

  Well if it worked before and does not work now then it sounds like you will need staff help. You can send in a Support ticket using the blue “support” button on the top right hand corner of any admin side blog page. Be sure to provide as much information as you can in the form.

  Yeah, it’s jumping all around again. :) Now, I can see it when in here, but when I log in, it’s the black box and under my profile it is the same. I’ll figure it out, I am sure.

  I have contacted support, still waiting to hear back.

  I haven’t used a transparent image, and it’s a jpg, so that should be ok.

  It will upload, but it won’t crop, that seems to be the problem! I see others have experienced it too.

  I have just tried again and it seems to have worked, but I guess it’ll take a while to show up…
