  Hi – Just wanted to see why my avatar keeps disappearing today – found a little bit about it in another thread. I thought it was solved, but now its gotten worse. Under my displayed comments section, it is now showing other people’s avatars on my main page with blank pictures. Is this a problem with my blog, or an overall WordPress problem? Thanks for your help.

  Yes, this is happening to others as well and, we believe staff are working to correct it.

  …and on the topic of avatars, what is happening with the Comments section of these sites? All of a sudden, my main page is extended by a list of 1″ blank avatars. What used to be a small list of 10-12 recent comments is now taking up several inches, and those blank avatars are BIG. Is this something temporary that’s being fixed?

  Was just writing a post on this subject when I noticed this one :)

  I don’t mind the avatar boxes, (now I’ve reduced them in size to 16x16px anyway) but the comments box is now the only item in my sidebar without a border. It comes back when I turn the avatars off. (in widgets) Does this happen in all themes or is it just a few that are affected. I’m using Contempt.

  The only other issue is that none of my ‘commentors’ have an avatar as most don’t have a WordPress blog!

  bonnie you can reduce the size in your widgets section, 16×16 means they don’t take up much more (if any) space than before.

  I believe staff is working on this function. And, from my point of view, which may be different than your own, avatars are neither essential nor important to my blogging – creating content is – so, I’m not sweating it. I’m being patient and blogging on. :)

  I certainly hope there is an option to give these avatar boxes appearing in my Recent Comments box in my sidebar the deep six. I consider them to be useless “tat” and I resent giving up sidebar space to have them appearing there at all.

  Came over here because of the avatars in the Recent Comments widget. I certainly hope this is going to be an option since I have no desire for that on my blog.

  EDIT – my bad. I see that it IS an option. Thank goodness!

  Yes you can do what you want with them in your widgets section, from ‘off’ right up to 128×128 pixels

  Hooray! Thank goodness having avatars appear in the Recent Comments box it’s optional. I’m off to turn the dratted things off on all my blogs right this minute.

  And, I sincerely hope if they start showing up on every post I make that I will be able to shut that function off too. If not then I will simply upload a white square and be shut of avatars – period.

  Cripes! We are becoming more and more like myspace every day – Blech! :Q… {puking}
