Avatar comes and goes
-
I just added a new avatar to my blog and I realize it will take a little time to put it in place, however, it seems to be on again then off again. In addition, it has never been completely on comments that I’ve made on other bloggers sites. Will this resolve itself shortly? Should I just be patient?

What do you mean by “it has never been completely on comments”? Avatars show up at different times across WP.com, but they should show up properly everywhere within a day, including retroactive changes.
-
What I meant by never completely on comments is that it would show up on some other bloggers comments then go off but on some other bloggers comments, it hadn’t shown up at all. I looked this morning, though, and, so far at least, my avatar seems to be showing up everywhere. As I wrote the first time, perhaps I just needed to be patient a little bit longer!

It seems that I spoke too soon. Now my avatar has disappeared again from all places. I noticed on another bloggers question that Mark had said it may be a server or cache problem? Perhaps this is the problem on mine too?

Remember that there are two types of wordpress blogs. Those hosted here at wordpress.com and those that are self-hosted on another web host using the software downloaded from wordpress.org. Your avatar should show when you make comments on blogs hosted here at wordpress.com (as long as you are logged in to your wordpress.com account), but they will not show on self-hosted wordpress blogs. Most wordpress.com blogs will have “blog at wordpress.com” in the footer. Most (but not all) self-hosted blogs will have “powered by wordpress” or something similar in the footer.

Okay, thank you! I did, of course, know that there’s a difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org (hosting, that is), however, I did not know that the avatar doesn’t show up on both.

You’re welcome and happy blogging.
You might want to think about setting up a gravatar (universal avatar). More and more people are setting their self-hosted blogs to display gravatars and they work here at .com as well.

I checked out the site you listed … that sounds easy enough. I think I will set up a gravatar. Thanks again!
