    Anyone can help me?
    thank you very very much.
    Bye

You need to crop it to the proper size then upload it. Try that and see if it works. I think you’re only looking at one corner of the file you uploaded, and that’s the problem.

    I have uploaded a 128x128px jpg file.
I also have tried to upload a 80x80px gif, a 96x96px jpg and none worked…
The maximum image size is 128x128px, is this correct?
When i confirm, pressing the crop image button, i see 3 black squares, big, medium and small.
can you help me again? ;-)

    Well, I think i have some problems…
i tried to upload a very big image, but when it ask me to select the piece of the image to use, i can do nothing, if i click and drag the cursor change to deny icon.
    I have problem in widget drag’n’drop also…
    i’m using firefox 2.0.0.3 and win2k

Okay, I think you’ll need to sort of clear out the pipes here. Pick a small, random image, anything at all and upload THAT as your avatar. Save changes, then go back and upload the one you really want in the proper size (if 128×128 is what it’s telling you, use that). This way it sort of clears out the memory of the old, not-working image. Then hopefully you put in one that’s the right size and pre-centered and all will be well.

Do NOT upload a big image. Upload an image that is already 128×128. Come back and let us know if that works. Also, can you supply a link to your blog?

Ok, I uploaded a 5x5px red gif, when i click the upload button i can see the right image, then I suppose I have to click te crop button.
Nothing to do, after clicking ‘crop image’, it shows me 3 black squares, and my avatar is the biggest black square…
I think you can see my black avatar in these comments… :-(
here the link, but i wrote nothing:

You don’t have to crop something that’s already small. That was just to bump the old one.

Now what I want you to do is go and upload the exact image you want in exactly the right size. See if you can delete those black squares while you’re in there. Then upload the right thing. Also, avatars take awhile to show up properly; there’s a thread for testing avatars in the Off Topic forum, and there might be some tips there as well.

It’s not a bitmap, by any chance, is it? I don’t think we can use those at all.

Ok, i tried to upload the image from another pc, and now it worked.
i dont’ know why i cannot do that from the first pc… maybe it has some problem!!!

    @Rain
: Thanks a lot for your help!
    bye

You’re welcome. Glad the fix was so simple. Next time I’ll recommend that instead.

I have the same problem with my avatar being black. I’ve tried multiple images and the problem is the same. I don’t have another PC to upload from…am I outta luck?

What browser and operating system are you using?

    Windows XP and internet explorer

I have two students who are having the same problem. They have sent me their avatar images and I am able to upload them into my profile. I did some minor sizing and sent the file back to one of my students and he was not able to upload the file that I had uploaded to test in my profile.

I wonder if there is some setting on these computers that is blocking the uploading of the avatar?

I’ll check the OS and browsers that my students are using.

It appears to me that the problem is with the WordPress application. I had one of my students send me her username and password so I could try loading her picture. I am not able to load any picture on her site. Is this a clue? When I choose the file location and click upload file, the next screen asks me to crop the image, but there is no crop frame. When I click on crop image, the next screen shows the avatar as black in three sizes.

    Any ideas anyone?

Several people have reported problems with uploading; it appears to be specific to certain blogs, and requires a back-end fix, so go ahead and have them send in a Feedback on Monday. What theme are they using, by the way? There’s just an off-chance it’s theme-related, not that that would be logical, but it would be possible.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I am one of the students Jenny was referring to (May 14). I am using the theme, Kubrick. I have tried changing themes, but the avatar still doesn’t seem to work. I am operating an iMac running OS 10.4.9. and I am using Firefox 2.0.0.3.

Thanks for any help. (Is this considered a “Feedback” or do I need to send it elsewhere?)

You need to sign in to WordPress and go to the Dashboard: in your upper right-hand corner you’ll see a Feedback button. Hit that and a contact form opens up.

It seems that WordPress has done some upgrades. I am now able to upload and crop my avatar and also place a custom header in my blog. Thanks to those responsible for the fix.

it still doesn’t work for me…. doom on me
