Avatar not appearing alongside my comments on posts

I have asked support about this and am awaiting an answer but I am posting here in case people have some ideas.
As you can see my avatar appears on these forums OK, however it does not appear along side my comments when I add a comment to a post. Other people’s comments do have their avatar showing. Before I uploaded my avatar I didn’t get the default logo appearing either. How does WordPress know to insert an avatar? Will it only work if I use the appropriate display name and the same email address as I registered with? I know I don’t have to use my login in name as mu chum uses his display name without problems.
Any ideas?

I don’t really understand what you mean “There are two in your blog”. As I asked above, how is the avatar added? Does it look at display name and email address? As I said the default avatar never appeared and my uploaded avatar doesn’t either. I have tried various combinations of my name and different email addresses and can’t get avatar to appear. I haven’t used my login name (as in this forum) but my friends avatar appears with his login name or his display name.

2 login names, 2 emails – both are fine but which has the avatar? -
My author was just for testing (note login name slightly different) I am looking my admin email and name. My question remains – how is avatar selected? Does it look at login name, display name or email address, or a combination of these?

It’s tied to your account here at wp.com actually. Where specifically are you looking at and not seeing it appear? A specific URL will help us answer your question.
You are also logged in when you make this comment, right? It’s also a wordpress.com blog as well, right?

My comments do not have an avatar appearing. As you see it does appear here on the forums.

While I go check, please answer my other question about if you;re logged in when you make these comments. Kind of important. :)
edit: I’m thinking you;re not logged in as when a do a test comment, the avatar shows up fine.

The exact same thing is happening to me! I am signed on and can only see the avatar here in the forum or if I upload it into my editor on a page but not next to my comments.

This is how it goes.
(1) You will never see your avatar on posts.
(2) You will see your avatar only when you are signed in and leave a comment on another wordpress.com blog or your own blog, that is, provided the blog theme allows for it and some themes don’t.
(3) Avatars always show up on the wordpress.com category/tag pages and in the forum first.
(4) There is time delay before you see them on comments.Suggestion – get on with your blogging confident that as your avatar is displaying here in the forum it will show up eventually on the comments you made. :)

Seawoman, how long ago did you upload that avatar? The comments avatars do take a bit to filter down. We volenteers here in the froums don’t have an exact time but we think it takes about an hour.
Please remember that since the file name stays the same, you may have to clear your browser’s file cache to see it as your browser will probably just be pulling the file from it’s cache over and over again. (I do just see the default in there though.)
