Avatar on Blog Posts

Can anyone tell me why my Avatars won’t show up on blog posts when it works everywhere else.

Should be able to go through this with you, but we need your blog URL, specific examples of what you want to do and specific example of what you mean be working everywhere else. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish is all ;)

Avatars do not display on blog posts. The admin page notation is incorrect. They only display on (1)wp.com tag page entries, here (2) on forum entries, and (3) on comments you leave on other wordpress.com blogs and (4) on comments you leave your own blog, provided you are signed in at the time.

What’s more is that there are problems with avatars right now that Mark has told me they are trying to track down and fix. Yesterday I uploaded a new avatar September 18th, 2007 at 2:46 am and it still has not changed.

In response to trent…. As I have a couple of people who write in the blog, it would be nice if the avatars would display by the posts in the blog itself. According to timethief, this is isn’t possible, but it would be pretty darn super if it was.

    Sorry….isee2020.wordpress.com is the blog name.

I do now see your avatar but it’s a very dark photographic image.

It is true that at this point in time avatars do not display on posts, despite what is said on the Your Profile page.

If you want to make a request to staff that all posts have avatars displayed on them, including multiple authors on the same blog, then you can use the “Support” button on the top right hand corner of any admin side blog page, during support hours, and send this request into staff or you can use this link http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

It doesn´t work for me either… my avatar first shows up in blog-posts i leave, then it disappears when i upload the page afterwards. This is a pity!
Though, the avatars of some persons appear – why is this? Thanks to resolve this problem!

    @majorneryz
Please post a link to your blog when you post to the forum or link your username to your blog (instructions are below).
I can clearly see your avatar.

At this point in time wp.com avatars do not display on blog posts.

At this point in time wp.com avatars only automatically display on
    (1) wp.com tag page entries
    (2) on wp.com forum entries
    (3) on comments you leave on other wordpress.com blogs, provided you are logged into wordpress.com at the time you leave them
    (4) on comments you leave your own blog, provided you are logged into wordpress.com at the time you leave them.

When it comes to uploading avatar images some bases worth covering are:
    (1) Be sure your image one of these file types – jpg, jpeg, png, gif (Note that bmp’s cannot be uploaded due to size).
    (2) Do not use anything in the file name but letters and numbers. Use no spaces, no dashes, no underscores, or any type of special character or punctuation, except for the dot between the file name and the extension. Also make sure that the file name has an extension.
    (3) Choose an image that does not have any transparency in it.
    (4) Pre-size the image to be 128 pixels x 128 pixels square prior to trying to upload it.

Linking your username to your wp.com blog in the forum
    (1) Go up to the top right hand corner of this forum page and look for “Welcome, majorneryz! View your profile” and click “View your profile”.

    (2) Next click “edit this information”.

    (3) Complete the fields being sure that where it says website that you enter http://insertyourblognamehere.wordpress.com (no period at the end or the link won’t work)

    (4) Once you’re done click “Update Profile”. Voila! Now every time you sign into the forum we can click on your username and your blog will be linked to it.

    (5) Also note that there is a complete record of every post that you make to the forum on your forum profile page. Everyone in the forum can access it by simply clicking on “Member” next to your username.

    @Mark,
Will you please consider adding the Avatar information above to the FAQs post found here http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/02/27/what-is-an-avatar/

  • Unknown's avatar

Please be sure to make a distinction between posts and comments. Avatars DO show on comments.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Avatars DO show on comments.

    On most themes ;)

  • Unknown's avatar

This is to let you know that I have sent the details to Mark and that he will review and consider them.

  • Unknown's avatar

When I write a comment on somebody else’s blog, my avatar does not show. I think as soon as I leave my blog, I lose my avatar. Is my log-in only for my blog? Yet I have seen comments+avatar published by members of WordPress. That is, there seems to be a way to do that, but what is it?.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, now it did show up. So why doesn’t it do that normally?

  • Unknown's avatar

Er, help? As I said here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=8515&page=32&replies=957#post-124296 My avatar image isn’t displaying properly on blog comments. First I got the ‘red X”, then when I tried to re-upload the avatar it wouldn’t let me crop the image, and now it shows the upper left corner of my avatar. Argh! *sigh*

  • Unknown's avatar

Adding, the image I tried to upload is *EXACTLY* 128 by 128 pixels also.

  • Unknown's avatar

Adding, as you can see, it isn’t displaying properly on the forums (as of this moment) either. Not on the forums, on blog comments, or my profile. What gives?

  • Unknown's avatar

Adding: I have observed other people’s avatars vanish today as well. Avatars were fine earlier, but they are not now.
