Oh, thank God for this thread. I thought I was going straight out of my gourd, getting the little top-corner-of-my-image-as-avatar. Glad to know it seems to be a bug and not just me being incompetent. ;-)
I’ll be checking back as well.

Anyone still having avatar problems??
Mine seems to show up in the forum but not in the “Blogs about:…” pages.
For instance:
http://wordpress.com/tag/reactive-mindMine is currently the Featured Blog “What is Dianetics?” but with no avatar?

Update: Bloggers please also note that animated gifs and images containing transparencies cannot be used as avatars.

I also submitted my problem to support, the fix they suggested (re-naming the avatar, make sure it’s a .jpg .png or .gif and exactly 128 by 128 pixels square.) was tried. Well, I have been trying to upload a .jpeg that is *exactly* 128 by 128 pixels square. I tried re-naming it twice. I wrote back and said it didn’t work. My avatar is still not displaying properly. This must be a hard bug to squash, eh? *sad*
ETA: Also, my avatar doesn’t have any transparency. It’s a black on black design.

It must be. Staff don’t like hearing unhappiness and they work hard to duplicate these weirdenesses so bugs can be triggered and dispensed with. The fact that it’s still happening but only to a very small number of blogs is really perturbing.
Setting that aside, it’s the weekend so, either get out or stay home but,
enjoy it! :) -
I have a nice cup of blackberry tea, and nice music playing. *smile* *purr* Also I hope to get outside in a bit, with luck. I’m also planning on playing with beads this evening. Yay!

Er? My comment didn’t post? NM, there it is! Weird… There it *was*…
Just in case it keeps playing hide-and-seek, I tried to say:
“I have a nice cup of blackberry tea, and nice music playing. *smile* *purr* Also I hope to get outside in a bit, with luck. I’m also planning on playing with beads this evening. Yay!”

Hey, kat {purred the lioness} it’s great to hear that you and I would get along just fine. It’s glorious weather.
There’s sunshine on my deck to bask in that I’m headed for. I’ll have glass of wine with dinner and listen to great female Canadian singers all evening. :)
*rotflol* the bold lettering is toooo much …… I left a strong tag open up there … lol … gone to fix

@bianca and anyone else who might be interested:
there’s an avatar testing thread in the Off Topic forum. You can find it here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=8515&page&replies=994Test there to your heart’s content with no worries about adding to a support thread :-)

This is just an update for new posters to this thread. Please read this summary and follow the guidelines so you can be sure that the avatar problem you are experiencing is not one of your own making. wordpress.com avatars

Trying a completely different avatar now. Trying this one:
Let’s see. Nope =(
ETA: (Talking about the avatar I just tried to upload, linked above.) Janie is full grown, by the way. (She’s just had a very hard life prior to coming to us and didn’t get enough food to grow. She’ll always be small.) The grey paws are Oscar’s, he’s part Maine Coon, and it shows. He’s 14 pounds, and twice the size of an averge (neuter) male cat. Janie was a stray, and we took her in with the idea of fostering her and finding her a home. Until she grew *very* attached to me. (She’s a “one human” cat.) She started out as Jane Doe.

Okay so here’s a suggestion kat. Relax and know that staff are working on this problem. When they have a fix they will have all your information in this thread and will take care of this for you. Until then there’s really nothing you, I or anyone else can do about it.
