Avoid manually correcting punctuation like quote marks or apostrophes.

When I post blogs, I write the post, typing in punctuation like quotes or apostrophes from the keyboard. But to get them to show correctly on Facebook or LinkedIn, I have to have to go through manually, open the character insert button, and replace each one from there. If I don’t, readers see rubbish where punctuation should be. How can I just type my posts and post them quickly, without having to go through with a fine-tooth comb and replace every punctuation mark manually?

I don’t have that issue and have no idea what’s causing it. Hopefully another Volunteer will be able to assist you.

I am not using Publicize, not sure how or if I should be, since I’m not yet feeling strong enough to really slam stuff out there. But I find as soon as my posts go to LinkedIn and Facebook, if I don’t do this manual replacement, they are full of gibberish where punctuation marks (mostly apostrophes and quotes) should be. People have told me about it, and I can see it on those sites.

Thanks for your help. It takes a LONG time to get a post up because of this, so my posts have fallen behind. When you say “subscribe” — I have the “notify” me button checked below and get messages on my home email — is that what you are referring to?

By the way, I realized I AM using Publicize, I guess — it looks like it since it’s sitting on the side and has my Facebook and LinkedIn page that it’s pushing stuff to. That’s the problem. Everything looks fine on the WordPress Screen to me, but when I go to LinkedIn, or someone else tells me about it, they notice that all the quote/apostrophe,e tc. punctuation on the “feed” if that’s that right term, is messed up.

  • Can you link me to an example of this? Maybe a screenshot if not an actual page?

Here are some screenshot instructions if you are not familiar with the process:
