Avoiding photo distortion for featured header photo

  I use Twenty Eleven theme. One of the reasons why I seldom have rotating /changing header photos is the problem I have in cropping and resizing photo without distortion to fit the theme headerk’s 1000 x 288 size requirements.

  How do people do this without spending oodles of time and not distorting the original photo? I don’t mind cropping a photo and then resizing or is vice versa to make it fit a header size requirement?

  Depends on which part of the photo you want. If you want all of it horizontally, you downsize so the width becomes 1000px then you crop so the height becomes 288.

  Dummy me, tries to do both proportionally.

  Guess, I’ll have to spend more time playing around on this one.
