'Awesome blogs using the Origin theme'

  • Unknown's avatar

This is a pretty random question, but I was wondering why there aren’t any examples of cool looking blogs in the Origin theme page (theme.wordpress.com/themes/origin/), as compared with the feature at the end of other theme pages (e.g. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/edin/)? I love the Origin theme and would love to see what people are doing with it through that kind of spotlight.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your footer says, “Proudly powered by WordPress”
which indicates that you are not hosted here on WorPress.COM

“Proudly powered by WordPress” indicates that you have a site you pay someone to host, you are using WordPress.ORG software to make it function, and you are using a theme which works only with wp.ORG platform.

Please realize that there are different kinds of WordPress. Different software, different platforms, different themes. So a theme for wp.ORG is not the same as a theme with the same name which is available for wp.COM.

Here are some details about the different platforms:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Themes available on wp.COM (this forum and platform) have been either designed for us, or have been specially adapted to work here. The link you refer to is only for wp.com: your theme and platform is different.

This is a link to Origin Theme for wp.ORG: https://wordpress.org/themes/origin

If you scroll down to near the bottom of the link you gave,
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/edin/
then you will see some wp.COM sites using that theme.

But as I explained above, those adaptations won’t necessarily work with the platform you are using.

    WordPress.COM ≠ WordPress.ORG

Forum help for your site is available here:

Hi 1tess, sorry if I’ve confused your post, but I think I am hosted through .com – I used to have a .wordpress.com address, but I recently got the upgrade for my own domain. I don’t have the technological capacity to even approach making a blog with .org, so I’m pretty sure that’s not me! However thank you for your response regardless.

Furthermore, the question isn’t really about my own blog, it’s about the theme pages themselves, so please disregard the sentence at the bottom of my post that asks about my blog!

Is this the site you are asking about?
    http://filmgrimoire.com/
It’s at the bottom of your question, and it is linked to your username. That is a wp.ORG site as I explained above.

If you are asking about a different site, then please provide a link starting with http:// etc
so we can see what you are asking about.

This link, provided in your original post:
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/edin/
There are links when you scroll down to near the end of the page:
    “Awesome blogs using Edin”

But unless you have a link to a wp.COM site, then you will be looking at examples that do not apply to your wp.ORG site you have linked to here.

I did a whois search on your link, so there may well be a problem with the footer on your site. It does look like you have a simple domain name upgrade rather than the “powered by wordpress” indication. And also looking at your page source, your site is indeed hosted here.

I’ve modlooked this topic so staff can look at what is wrong with your footer!! If you subscribe, you’ll be notified via email when someone responds.

This is definitely not what should be there on the bottom of your wp.com site!!!

My post https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/awesome-blogs-using-the-origin-theme?replies=5#post-2144425 shows what the theme showcase lists as blogs using “Origin” and I’ve tagged this topic with the theme name so you might try looking at people who have had questions about that theme to see what they have done.

Sorry for the confusion above, and let’s hope staff will fix your footer…

I’m going to boil this down to my original question after the confusion above. The Origin theme page does not have an ‘Awesome blogs using [theme name]’ section at the bottom like other theme pages do. (Example given being the Edin theme page above.)

I’m not asking about my own website. I’m asking about the page for the Origin theme.

I was wondering why there was not an ‘Awesome blogs using Origin’ section on the Origin theme page, and potentially wondering whether one could be set up for it.

    Hi Anna,

In order for sites to show up in that section they have to use the Origin theme and have been tagged to be included in the Theme Showcase. As it happens, there are no sites at the moment that meet both criteria.

I’ll keep an eye out for great sites using the Origin theme though so hopefully you’ll see some sites there in the future. If you see a site you’d like us to consider, please pass along the link to us as well.

    Does that answer your question?

Sure does, thanks lizthefair! Really love that theme, so I’m looking forward to seeing the kinds of blogs that may end up on the feature in future. :)
