Awful site speed for new site. So disappointed.
-
Hi
I just launched my site and am so disappointed, mobile speed is between 30-40. I used wordpress.com because its meant to be fast.

The youtube embed function is absolutely awful as well, why do WP allow this usage when it causes all sorts of issues? And I need trailers on my site.
What can I do except start over with a new self host?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I just did the same test and I see rather good scores for your site. I noticed your images are way too big.
What problems are you having with youtube, because I can’t see any problem with youtube embeds; they all show fine.
You could start by performing a traceroute from your computer (so not through an online traceroute service!) to your site, to find a possible bottleneck.

Hi Ross,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. I understand how frustrating it can be when your site isn’t performing as expected, especially after putting in all the effort to launch it.
It looks like you’ve already done a great job resizing your images and removing some YouTube embeds, which has improved your site’s speed. Unfortunately, embedding YouTube videos can sometimes negatively impact performance, especially on mobile. One option to consider is using a lazy loading technique for the videos, which would only load them when a user scrolls to the section of the page where the video is embedded. This can help reduce the load time for your pages.
Additionally, certain advanced optimizations, like preloading or removing unused CSS, aren’t available on the Personal plan since it doesn’t include HTML or CSS editing capabilities. If you’re looking to unlock those features, upgrading to a Premium or higher plan will give you more control over your site’s code, allowing for greater customization and performance improvements.
Let me know if you’d like any further assistance, or if you need help exploring other options to improve your site’s performance!
