B2B Blog – Separate or with Business Website
-
Hi,
We are a B2B focused company, in the international trade field. We are in the processing of setting up a blog and are trying to decide, whether we set-up the blog as a separate domain from our main business website or make it part of the website. Would love to know your opinions on the pros and cons of each approach.
Either way, we do want to to maintain a clear message that the blog is run by the company. However, I have noticed in case of B2B Businesses, the blog posts tend to get a bit more credibility when the blog is separate from a business website and the posts are not “directly” trying to promote the services of the business. Look forward to your thoughts on this.

That’s quite a big statement from one poster. I’m sure most people use both the .com and .org site and are more helpful.
In my beginner experience,
I’ve found that there are advantages to using the .com version –
People can follow the blog a lot easier because it’s set up for community involvement (there’s a “follow” button at the top)
If you post in the .org version (linked to your web domain) it’s harder for people to follow you, but because your blog is linked to your main page content search engines should rate your website higher because it has more “rich and varied content”.
Have you considered posting a blog both on a separate wordpress site and on your own website? If you have a good product, then be proud of it and list your blog on your site.
I started by posting separately, but have put my blog on my main page:
IT Jobseekerz
Not sure what difference it has made to traffic, but I’ll know in a few months.
